How to Draw Lee Seung-gi

1

Sketch lightly this oval with a No. 2 pencil. Also add the small neck line. Stay close to the shape in the picture.

2

The strange crescent shape on the oval is just a reminder that hair will be there. Also in bisecting line helps with centering the face. Draw in the curved shoulder.

3

The parallel lines are to help with eyebrows, eyes, nose and mouth placement. Right now, drawing in these general shapes make it easier to sketch in the details later. Don't worry about drawing in the other eyebrow... that's hidden by his bangs.

4

If you are doing a professional picture and need accuracy, this has helped me tremendously. This is MY TIP of the day and it is LONG! Skip it if you want to. Those crazy lines help with placement too. Don't get me wrong, I mess up majorly most times.

5

Erase the guidelines and any other distracting lines. Your picture won't look exactly like this, but remember my picture is only a guide... that's it. Now we are going to start with shading & adding details.

6

Since we are beginning to shade in pencil, I want to give you a heads up, starting with the tools. I'm in love with the Monolith 9B graphite pencil sticks. It's nice, black, smooth on the surface and makes such great dark lines. And a No.2 pencil isn

The picture that goes with this step shows two different ways to hold your pencil to acquire certain effects. OVERHAND: Holding a sharpened pencil in normal writing form with fingers in the middle or near the lead gives you great control and thin/det

HINT: At this point, do not start SKIN TONE shading yet, even though the face area is a darker tint. Now make sure your placement lines (outlines too) are light enough to blend or erase easily. My lines in certain areas are darker to help you see how

9

Sketch in some shading around his cheek and nose. Lightly apply highlight areas on his nose and cheek.

10

Add in his cheek lines. Make sure you add a small curve/indention between his cheek and chin outline on the left side of his face (facing you-this accents his smile). Look closely at the teeth. Sketch in lightly the arches to his teeth. You don't nee

11

Sketch in the left side of his hair, facing you. Add some more strokes to the edges of his bangs.

12

Now draw in the right side of his hair, facing you. Feel free to add fly-away hair strands. Also observe to how the back of his hair has curves and draw this lightly. You can lighten or erase the placement lines/guidelines as you go along. Either use

13

Add more sketch lines, mimicking this picture, to his neck and shirt.

14

I want to show you how the placement lines can change as you examine your reference picture and draw in changing details. It isn't that important to match up exactly, but it is nice to see where the differences are. Check out the top of his hair, bac

15

IT'S TIME FOR SKIN TONE SHADING! Before you start, lightly erase the placement lines on his eyebrow and near his bangs. Now shade in his forehead and eye area by sketching lightly in small circles.

16

Here is a close up look on shading & shaping of the eyes and eyebrows. 1) Placements. 2) Sketch & shading lines. 3) Skin tone shading & start on bangs. 4) Darkening in eyes, eyebrows & skin tone. 5) Smooth blending finish of skin and more darkening t

17

Here we are working down with skin tone shading. Leave the highlight spots on his nose and cheek. Give a bit darker shading underneath his nose.

18

This is where your observation is important. Look closely (click) at this picture. The left corner of his mouth (facing you) has been extended to the end of his nose. Copy what you see and you won't fail duplicating the look.

19

Now give the rest of his face and neck skin tone shading. Make his lips a tad darker, leaving highlights on the bottom lip. Darken the edges of his smile and portion of his neck beneath his chin. Yes, it's that time to shade in his hair. Darken the c

20

In picture 3 you can see the corner of his mouth being extended. 4) is the complete skin tone shading and 5) is the blending and more darkening. Check out how his mole becomes larger & darker through the progression.

21

Here in this nose progression allows you to see how 2) has the highlight at the tip of his nose, 3) is light sketching, 4) more sketching to skin tone is added, 5) blending to completion.

22

Blending has not happened yet. Now his whole mane of hair has been darkened. 9B graphite pencil works wonders at this. From looking at the reference picture, I added the details to his uniform.

23

This ear progression is simpler than the others. In 3) Hair strands is added for realism. 4) Shows the skin tone shading & hair shading.

24

Like the reference picture, I found the absence of a background more striking, his hair & skin tone giving an awesome contrast. I took a tissue and blended his skin area. It surprised me that I only needed to take this one step because I had shaded h
