Description: In this next drawing tutorial I will be showing you how to draw Woody Woodpecker. I know what you all must be thinking, Woody Woodpecker? My only answer to that is yeah why not. I may be a young teen and Woody just may be too old for me to remember, but you see I have a mother that grew up watching this pecking bird when she was a kid and because of that she has quite a few VHS movies on this cartoon character. Woody made his first appearance back in 1940 with the animated premier show of “Knock Knock”. His character design was created by a fella named Walter Lantz and he was distributed by Universal Pictures. Woody Woodpecker is a part of the “Screw Ball Pack” that consisted of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Bugs and Daffy came out way before Woody back in the 1930’s. One of the original voice talents for Woody was Mel Blanc who worked for Warner Bros and Hanna Barbera. Did you know that Mel Blanc was also the voice talents for Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Sylvester the Cat, Tweety Bird, Foghorn Leghorn, Yosemite Sam, Wile E. Coyote and was also known as the man of a thousand voices? The image of Woody Woodpecker changed about three to four times over the course of time. The final image of Woody is him being some what of a stocky looking bird with thick limbs. His character is some what of an annoying insane bird that gets into some trouble once in a while. He would open every show with that cackling laugh that seemed to go on for a while. But that was the fun in the show. I think that this redheaded woodpecker was one of the funniest cartoon characters during the Golden Age of American animation. He is truly a classic character and I will always enjoy watching my mother’s reruns that she has on video tape. This tutorial will show you how to draw Woody Woodpecker step by step. The instructions make him easy to draw because the steps are easy to follow. I will be back with more drawing fun so stick around and wait to see what is submitted next.
