How to Draw a Skull Head Design

Step 1.

Are you ready for this lesson or what? Okay then lets get down to business then. you will start this step by drawing out the guidelines of the skull and the top hat. the top hat is slightly tilted to the right so you will have to draw the lines on an angle. You will then draw two lines that form the shape of a cup for the outlining of the skull head. Now add the facial guidelines and then the shape of the chin.

Step 2.

Now as you can see this step is pretty simple. All you have to do is draw the lining of the hats lid which is a nice curved line. You will then use the guidelines to start sketching in the face structure of the skull. Start by drawing the sides of the temple and then the prominent cheek bone lines. You will then add the lining for the brows and make sure that the brow lining is not smooth. It should be lightly jagged. You will then draw the lining shape of the jaw bone lines.

Step 3.

Okay, are you having fun yet? Good, I am too. You will start step three by adding the inner line of the lid which will form a lip. You will then start sketching in the shape of the hollow eye sockets on the skull head as shown. And again if you notice the lining is not smooth at all, instead they are slightly jagged. You will then begin the lining of the nose and then start skecthing in the teeth and make sure that they are all even with each other.

Step 4.

Okay you have finally reached step four. I bet your feeling a little relieved huh? I know I feel the same way. You will first finish drawing the lid ring that goes totally around the hat and then start detailing and defining the skull's face. You will do this by adding some shading and arched lining to emphasis the brow. Then you will add some deep pockets under the eyes and then shade that in as well. Detail the left side of the mouth and teeth as shown and then begin adding the lining for the cigar. You will then add the shape of the skull head on the upper left side.

Step 5.

At last! You are finally on your last drawing step and what you will do here id first start erasing all the guidelines that you drew in step one. Then you will add the top lining of the top hat and then add a band line in the middle. You will then color in the eye, nose, and mouth pocket holes. I only included the shading of the eyes and nose because I wanted to show you how the cigar is drawn in the mouth. As you can see the cigar has creased lines at the base where the teeth are clutching down. You will then draw the tube shape of the cigar and add a burnt tip with a few smoke lines.

Step 6.

Well here you have it the finished product of this lesson. All you have to do is add a little color. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial on how to draw a skull head design step by step. Who knows maybe you will someday use him for a tattoo when you are older if you are not already.

I hope that you are all enjoying my last tutorial on the grim reaper, he came out pretty cool right? I know I like it too. In this next tutorial I will show you how to draw a skull head design. What that basically means is that you can take this sketch and use him for a tattoo or just make something more out of him. I love the way this drawing came out too. I mean who knew that a skull head could come out looking so cool. The way I tackled this drawing was to first do a rough sketch of a slender looking skull head and then start from there. I had to sit there and decide what exactly I wanted my skull head to look like. So I had to think of a cool design that I felt someone would put on their body as a tattoo. I was trying to rough sketch some pieces together by adding ties, a little bling bling, and a rose. And then bamm, I came up with a design that I felt was really cool. I took the idea of the top hat from the skull of Slashes skull head character that is on the Guns N' Roses cross icon. Then I added a cool looking burning cigar. I was gonna put some diamonds or something like that in his eyes, but that winded up looking kinda stupid. I mean don't get me wrong it probably would have looked cool if the skull had a money type appeal to it but he doesn't. I colored the picture in using Photoshop CS3 and that is where I added all the graphics like the smoke skull coming from the cigar and the red glowing eyes. These effects can also be applied on paper as well with some good coloring pencils and light sketching and shading. I think that this skull head design would make an awesome looking tattoo because I can totally picture a rocker or biker with a tattoo like this one some where on his body. I'm gonna tell you why I added a tattoo category. It is because I have been getting into this show called “L.A Ink” which is about the everyday life of a popular tattoo parlor in Los Angeles California. It is so cool how they tattoo someone and all the tattoo artist they have working there are freakin talented, I mean they are sick. The best part is that a female owns the whole thing. So to me that is pretty inspiring. If you think about it even if you are a tattoo artist, your still an artist. This design is awesome and I know that I did a good job. I hope you like this drawing lesson on how to draw a skull head design step by step. I will be back in a while with more cool drawing tutorials in a bit. I can't wait for you guys to tackle this tutorial, I know you will love it!
