How to Draw a Red Panda
Step 1. Start out with a basic sketch of the panda. You can use the guidelines if you need them. I drew this on Strathmore drawing paper. I used an HB pencil for sketching, a 2H pencil for light shading, and B/3B pencils for dark shading.
Step 2. Make your sketch light and try to erase away as many unneeded lines as possible.
Step 3. I found it easiest to work on this guy from top to bottom/head to tail. Define the lines of the head more. Keep your lines light but confident.
Step 4. Roughly shade over the dark fur of the head using an HB pencil. you can also work a bit on the background as well.
Step 5. Start detailing the head from top to bottom. I used a B pencil for the dark shading here. I found that my 2H pencil worked very well for adding the lighter fur.
Step 6. Keep moving down the face. Pay attention to the direction that the fur is flowing.
Step 7. Finish up the head details. You can come back to this area later to fix any mistakes that you have made.
Step 8. Now prepare the rest of the drawing for shading and details by defining the remaining outlines a bit more. Also, sketch out the sectioning and fur direction for the tail.
Step 9. Now roughly shade over the rest of the body with an HB pencil again. You can use a blending stump or cloth to smooth out your first layer of shading.
Step 10. Shade in the red panda's torso. In order to get my shading that dark I had to first add a smooth layer with a B pencil and then go over that with a 3B pencil.
Step 11. Finish up the drawing by defining the tail and shading in the rest of the drawing. You should try to work from top to bottom again when adding finishing touches. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Let me know if you have any questions/need advice.

Well it has been quite a while since I've drawn any animals so I am going to get back into the groove of things by drawing my favorite animals starting with the red panda. What's not to like about these little guys? Get some paper and pencils and an eraser ready and follow along!
