How to Draw a Cartoon Chinese Dragon

1

Draw out the shape for the head, and then draw out the long wavy line for the body. Add the guidelines for the legs.

2

You will begin sketching out the snout of the dragons muzzle bridge and then draw a shape for the actual nose tip. Once that is done you can draw out an eye, and add the folds or creases on the bridge of the nose.

3

Sketch out more of the dragon's brow, and then draw in a slit pupil. When that is done make the lining that forms the mouth, and then draw out the mustache and bottom jaw. Don't forget the nose hole as well.

4

Now you will draw the jaw of the Chinese dragon's jaw line and then draw out the spliced tongue. When you are done, draw out the horns, and then begin moving to step.

5

Chinese dragons have hair that looks very much like a lions mane. Sketch out the mane, and then draw in the strand lines that will detail the mane. Draw out the other horn, and move to step six.

6

Now all you have to do here is draw out the shape of the body starting with the thickness of the neck, and then draw out the body and thicken the lining for the front legs.

7

Before drawing out the rest of the dragons body, all you have to do is draw out the front legs and then draw out the claws. Once the front legs and talons are all set, you can begin drawing out the rest of the dragons body right new the end where the

8

As you can see your requirements for this step is minimal. All you need to do is draw out the other back leg, and then the foot and toes for the leg and foot in front of you now.

9

Once you sketch out the rest of the body or tail, you can begin erasing the guides you drew in step one.

10

All you have to do here is sketch out the hairy tuft at on the tail like you see here. You can choose to go with a different style of tail end, or keep it the way you see it here. Erase the lines and shapes that you drew in step one.

11

Here is what your drawing looks like once you are all done. Now you figure out what kind of tones you will color this dragon in with, and then you have just drawn another awesome Chinese dragon cartoon style.

Description: How long has it been since I have submitted any dragon lessons? I know, it’s been a long while. Today I am going to upload two tutorials based n dragons and even though they will be cartoon style, they are both very cool. To start, I thought I would make a lesson based on "how to draw a cartoon Chinese dragon", step by step. When I first started Dragoart everything was supposed to be fantasy based. This means originally there was only going to be dragon, and other fantasy related tutorials on the site. But after coming to my senses after the first year, I realized that people wanted to learn how to draw more stuff than just dragons, fairies, and beasts. As of right now the dragon section has ninety six lessons not including this one. My goal is to eventually have one hundred dragon tutorials and I welcome all of you to help me reach that goal. Drawing dragons has always been my main thing, and I will always love dragons all my life. I know how hard it can be making your own dragon and that is why I wanted to make this tutorial on a cartoon version of a Chinese dragon. These beasts are one of the more popular of lore, and because they have such a solid history, they will forever be admired, feared, and loved. I tried making my version look a little bit like Mushu from Mulan, but now I’m thinking I should have colored it in differently. Either way you should have fun with drawing a cartoon Chinese dragon, they are not that hard to replicate if you take your time and follow the steps. I will be back in a jiff with more drawing fun so stay tuned in.
