How to Draw Hummingbirds

1

I'm not sure if artists here have drawn hummingbirds standing upwards instead of charging those flowers, so here, I'll demonstrate on how a hummingbird should look when it's resting (whether on a stick, flower petal, or whatever). A hummingbird's bod

When a hummingbird is in flight, they have incredibly fast wing speeds that it makes a 'humming' sound. Their wings can be drawn various ways, and below, I show you another way to pull off the hummingbird in action. Their wings are pointed. When you

Here's a cool pencil visual you can add to your hummingbird wing movements, to portray a more active drawing. Use swift and thin lines that range in shortness to create a 'swoosh' effect on the bird. Below I give an example. These lines must be drawn

Here I test the lines from the previous step onto the wings. See how the wings look more active? Remember what I said about hummingbirds having different wing views since they flap so fast. In this case, the wing is viewed shorter and pointier.

You will be drawing two hummingbirds and both of them will be from the side view. Begin drawing the circle shapes for the heads, and then draw the narrow oval shapes of the bodies. You will then draw in the guidelines for the beak, and wings like so.

6

Begin sketching out the shapes of the beaks which are very delicate looking, and then incorporate the heads, necks, and some of the chests.

7

Before you start drawing out anymore of the hummingbirds body, you will need to add that definition line to the beak, and then draw in and color the round, solid eye.

8

Here you will sketch out the larger birds body in full, and then sketch out the small wings for the bird in the upper right hand corner like so. The wings should have a smooth looking serrated edge, and the lining for the other hummingbird should hav

You will completely draw out the smaller bird's body and then draw in the marking for the stomach. Sketch in some feather detailing for the tail, and then draw in some of the feet. You will also sketch in the marking lines for the chest and belly of

All you have to do now is sketch out the branch that the larger hummingbird is resting on, and be sure to add some texture definition to the stick too. Next, sketch in all the feathers for the smaller hummingbirds wings like you see here, and then st

This is how the birds come out looking when you are done. Now you can color them in and add some designing to their bodies if you want. I hope you had fun with this tutorial on how to draw hummingbirds.

Description: Another bird is going be added to the bird section and this time it will be on another humingbird. In just a few days the month is going to change to March, and once that happens that means April is only going to be thirty days away. Now even though March is the offical month when spring begins, the rain showers, and birds don't start really showing up until April. This is because instead of snow there is rain. Instead of clouds there is sun. I love the month of April because it brings all sorts of singing birds around the backyards of many homes. I for one love being surprised by the hummingbird. I remember a day when I was washing a cup in the kitchen sink and I happened to look up and noticed a hummingbird flying in a steady position right in front of the window. It must of stood there for about half a minute, and because it stood so long I got a good look at it. I was so amazing how the wings where flapping so fast they seemed more like razors than they did wings. They are so small too which makes them a bird that is exciting to find and watch as they drink from a syrup filled hummingbird feeder. This lesson is dedicated to those hummingbirds that will be coming around very soon. Today, I will show you in detail "how to draw hummingbirds", step by step. I drew one of these birds back in 2008, and even though the drawing tutorial is old, it's still one of my favorites. I hope you like this lesson because when I was drawing the hummingbird I had so much fun. The great thing about this tutorial, is you get to design and color the bird any way you like. I have to go but I shall return. Have fun everyone and be sure to upload your works when you are through. Thanks for joinnig with another fun lesson.
