How to Draw Esperanza Spalding

1

Start with a circle for the head, and then sketch in the facial guidelines like so.

2

You will now begin sketching out the shape of her face but try and do the drawing on the left side instead of the entire face.

3

Using the facial guidelines you drew in step one, you will begin sketching out her eye shapes, and then some of her nose. Notice how I also incorporated the end lashes with her eyes.

4

Draw out and color in her eyeballs, and then sketch in her eyelid lines. When that is done continue to sketch out her nose like so, and as you can see there is only one nostril arch that is visible.

5

Carefully and lightly sketch out her eyebrows so they look realistic. You want to make sure that there is hair texture to the brows. When that is done sketch in more eyelashes, and then add some more detailing and definition around her eyes until you

6

Now it's time to draw out her mouth which we will draw shut. Now since her mouth is shut, all you have to do is sketch out the lips. Lastly, add some definition on the chin, and under her bottom lip.

7

You will now begin sketching out her hair starting with the tight crinkled lining that frames her face. As you see in the main picture she is sporting an Afro.

8

Continue to sketch out the tight crinkled lining for her very bog hairstyle, and then draw a hint of her shoulder to the right.

9

Sketch out her neck, and then draw in the shoulders and the shirt detailing. Be sure to add some texture definition on her shirt.

10

Finally, sketch in some more crinkled or kinky lines all over her hair like you see here. This is going to give you the texture effect for her neat Afro. Next, draw in her big hoop earrings, and then begin erasing the lines and shapes that you drew i

Here is what Miss Spalding comes out looking like when you are all done. Now you have the choice to color her in, or keep the drawing as a sketch. Either way I know you did a great job as you learned how to draw Esperanza Spalding.

Description: I'm finally going to submit this tutorial on "how to draw Esperanza Spalding", step by step. I uploaded the video lesson on her a few weeks ago, but I still had the step by step version sitting in my pending folder on the site. I've decided that I couldn’t procrastinate any further so here it is. Her real name is Esperanza Spalding and she was raised in Portland Oregon in the King area which is considered to be a pretty bad place to live. Esperanza was brought up by only her mother and along with her brother they did the best they could as a small family. There is some question as to what her ethnic background is and after researching I found out that her mother is Welsh, Native American, and Hispanic, and her father is black. She gained an interest for music at a very young age and by the time she was five years old she already knew how to play the violin which she taught herself how to do. Also at the age of five she starting playing with the Chamber Music Society of Oregon until she was fifteen years old. Now, before she started playing the bass, there was other musical instruments that she fiddled with and that was the oboe, and clarinet. She also decided that she wanted to play and sing music in other languages like Portuguese, Spanish, and English. Esperanza Spalding has been in the lime light with her solo albums since 2006, but it is only recently that this female artist came out of the woodwork and actually won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2011. How does a person go from not being heard of to being a Grammy winner is beyond me. All I know is that she actually beat out Justin Bieber by winning an award that everyone thought Justin Bieber would take home. Even Bieber had a moment of shock when the award went to someone else's hands. Anyways, she must be a passionate singer and bass player if she won the 2011 Grammy Award. I mean, I never witnessed anything like it before ever. Have fun learning "how to draw Esperanza Spalding", I'm sure she has fans on Dragoart that would love this tutorial on a very skilled musician, and singer.
