How to Draw an Otter, Draw a Sea Otter

1

You will first need to draw out the two circles for the body of the animal. One for the head, and another for the back end. When this is done, connect them both until you have an image that looks like a pulley system.

2

Now you are ready to sketch out the shape of the otter's head and face area. Since you are drawing this animal from the side, you won't have to worry about sketch in a set of eyes, or nostrils. Instead, sketch out the shape of the snout, and head and

3

Draw and color in a nose, and then draw and color in an eye. When that is done you can sketch in the whiskers, and lashes as well as some fur detailing. Next, add some definition to the ear before you move onto step four.

4

Here all you have to do is sketch out more of the animals body which include the otter's back, some of the butt, and then the front leg and paw. Lastly, sketch the stomach and part of the thigh lining.

5

Finish sketching out the sea otter's body which is the back leg and foot, and then the front leg and foot. Sketch in some fur definition like so, and move to step six.

6

Before you move onto your last drawing step, you have to sketch out the other back leg, and then the thick but semi stubby tail which points at the ends.

7

Erase the lines and shapes that you drew in step one top prepare your otter for fur detailing. Once the lines are all cleaned up, you can begin sketching out the detailing and definition for the fur for added texture.

8

Here is what your animal looks like when you are all done. I was going to draw the otter in the water, but then the tutorial would be missing the legs. I hope you had fun drawing an otter, join me next time for more drawing fun.

Description: When was the last time I did a tutorial on an animal that lives in the sea but often floats on the surface? Never, that's when. I have never drew or submitted a tutorial on "how to draw a sea otter", step by step. That is why I wanted to jump on a request that was suggested I make a tutorial on the sea otter. These water bearing animals are related to the weasel family, and they can commonly be found along the coasts of the Pacific Ocean in North America and Asia. Sea otters spend most of their living day in the water and when I say most, I mean they eat, sleep, play, mate, give birth, and obviously hunt in the water. They will however come out once in a while to have a rest or a nice nap on land. This animal species sometimes gets confused with the beaver, but as you can see they are much differnt than the wood munching rodent. Sea otters have webbed feet, and a fur that is water repellent. Their ears and nostrils also have the ability to close off when they swim under water as they hunt for their next meal. Now because they practically live in the water, their diet consists of crabs, fish, squid, oysters, and even octopuss. You will sometimes see the sea otter with a rock resting upon their chest to stay prepared for the next time they will need to crack open a shell for a tasty snack. When they relax in the water, they swim but float at the same time. Have you ever seen that Giecko comercial when the otter is just floating on the water eating a claim? Well that is exactly how they really live their day to day lives. To sum things up, I think that the otter are interesting mammals, even if they remind me of oversized water rats. Have fun learning "how to draw an otter". When you are all done with this tutorial you can work on getting another lesson done on something else. Thanks a bunch guys for viewing this lesson.
