How to Draw Jewel

Step 1.

Alright guys, here's the 411 on drawing Jewel. You'll want to base yourself off with a solid foundation in order to create a nice character drawing. I ALWAYS begin with drawing the basic head frame and then the body figure. For some reason, starting with drawing the head and working your way down, avoids mistakes. Use a compass for some of the circles, and swift strokes for curved shapes. I would recommend using a light blue pencil to draw the guides so you can see the visible guidelines to erase later.

Step 2.

Next, let's proceed onto drawing the basic frame shape of the body. By drawing the frame, you'll be able to draw the inner details much more easier hence accurately. Start off with the frame base of the head. Keep in mind that you must shape up the beak line once you've come close to drawing the front of the face. Bird beaks are very slim/pointed therefore, fade off into the other half of the face when in 3/4 view. Work your way down, slowly to the wings and chest area.

Step 3.

Then, work your way down to drawing the tail feathers as well as the right wing. Sketch the lower half of the legs so you can work on the feet. Macaws have two toes on one half of the foot and two more on the back. Their talons are very sharp and curved - very thin in shape. Add swift and thinned details for the feathers. You don't want to add too much line definition to them or they'll be taking away the viewer attention. Only add thick lines in areas that have most of the shadow source, using light lines for the parts that receive prime source of light.

Step 4.

Lastly, finish off with minor details that complete the drawing. Add the little feathers descending from the back of her head. Don't draw them too low, as they are the serve like a pony tail and not neck feathers! Add the narrow but happy eye as well as the lining for the rest of the beak.

Step 5.

Ah, here's the finished piece, what your drawing should resemble! You can erase your guidelines from the beginning step and ink out your drawing! I would recommend to use Micron ink pens for crisp - smooth lines. Thank you for viewing this tutorial! I hope you had the most fun learning to "draw Jewel". Peace out and have fun!

Hey guys, I'm only going to be submitting this tutorial with a bit of text because I'd really like to introduce you to a new movie called 'Rio'. The creators of 'Ice Age' made the movie with the voice talent of Anne Hathaway (who voices Jewel). In this easy lesson, you'll be learning “how to draw Jewel from Rio”, step by step. The drawing was so much fun to do, especially the coloring as well as background creation. I have a weak spot for creating ground dirt; it's not too much of a problem as the image itself looks suitable. I made the steps pretty simple and sweet so you can print out this tutorial for school! Learning to “draw Jewel”, will need enhancement for drawing her wings. I had a bit of a problem drawing the wings since I had little references of this character. Jewel is the aggressive and ambitious Macaw who meets Blu, embarking with him on an adventure. I'm not sure why or what the main plot is, but it seems Blu is very scared to fly. Alright peeps, enough is said and done. I really hope this lesson will give you somewhat of the character trait from Jewel. Have fun with this tutorial on “how to draw Jewel”. Remember to keep practicing until your fingers bleed from pain! Thanks so much for viewing and good luck!
