Description: Hello folks and Happy Forth of July! Today I thought I might switch up things a bit and do another tutorial on a symbol that I know will be familiar to a lot or most of you. So with that said, I will teach you how to draw an Iron Cross. This cross symbol has been in existence since 1813 by King Fredrick III and it was used as medals which were given to soldiers during the war with Napoleon. After the war, the iron cross was distributed again during the Franco Prussian War in the year of 1870. In 1914 the Iron Cross was again made available by Emperor William II during the beginning of World War I. The design of the Iron Cross was constructed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. The cross resembles that of the Teutonic Knights from the 14th century. The symbol is a black four-pointed cross with white trim, and has arms that widen towards the ends. The year 1813 appears on the lower arm, this symbolizes the first year the award was created. The Iron Cross from the first WW is marked with the year 1914, and the cross from WWII is marked with the year 1939. In the year of 1939 it was Adolf Hitler who restored the symbol of the Iron Cross and used it as a German decoration. The second class cross of the Second World War has the swastika embedded in the middle of the cross. Today the symbol of the Iron Cross has evolved into a graphic design used by clothing manufacturers such as Independent, West Coast Choppers and No Fear, brands preferred by those who espouse the skateboard and motocross culture. The Iron Cross is mostly seen now a days on the back of t-shirts, on skateboards, belt buckles, stickers, iron ons, and even as motorcycle helmets. You may even sometimes see the cross displayed as body art with many different styles of tattoos that a lot of West Coast Choppers wear as their devoted rider mark. What started out as a bravery award in 1813 is now being used as a part of pop culture today in the 21st century. I know you will all love this easy tutorial on how to draw an Iron Cross step by step. When you read the easy instructions you will see just how simple it is to draw this cross from the 1800’s. Until next time my fellow artist.
