Start this first step by drawing the small circle shape for the head and then add the facial guidelines. Draw the neck line and then attach it to the circle shaped body. Draw the rounded triangle shape for the tail end and then draw the leg line and

In this second step you will sketch out the shape of the Pterodactyls long robust beak. Add the detailing and definition to the front part of the beak by adding a nostril hole. You will then sketch out the mouth line and sketch out the erect crest of

In this step you will be sketching out the underbelly shape of the Pterodactyls body. Be sure to sketch out the lining with definition and detail as I have done here. You will also sketch out the shape of the eye and define it too. Next and lastly, s

You will sketch out the rest of the Pterodactyls body which includes the wings, the tail end, legs, and the feet. When that is done sketch in the wrinkled creases on the back of the neck and then move to the next drawing step where you will add detai

Here is your last drawing step and all you have to do now is sketch in the defining shadowing and detail the Pterodactyls body and wings so they look leathery and realistic. Before you start the shading process, you will need to erase the guidelines

Description: I wanted to draw another dinosaur that I surprisingly did not have. There are a hand full of well known and recognizable dinosaurs and this one is one of them. I will be giving you a lesson on “how to draw a Pterodactyl step by step”. The Pterodactyl is not considered to be classified as a dinosaur to paleontologist. Instead they consider these animals to be flying reptiles. The name Pterodactyl means “winged lizard” and because of this the term for dinosaur describes the animals that physically walked on the earth. Even though this animal is believed to be a reptile, it is still classified as a mammal. The wings of the Pterodactyl where attached to the fourth finger of their arms. The wing span of a Pterodactyl when they were alive reached up to forty feet long and that is pretty significant for a flying reptile. Like most movies and dinosaur cartoons depicted, Pterodactyls lived in caves, and in tall trees. Sometimes they would be found on top of high rocky cliffs near the open ocean. These reptiles fed on insects that were quite large in size, and they even ate smaller reptiles, fish, and dinosaurs. Their wing tissue was like leather and because of this they were able to sore threw the skies with speed and grace. It is thought that these animals flew long distances until they found a suitable habitat. When did these dinosaurs live? Well because they survived longer than most dinosaurs, Pterodactyls were in existence through both the Cretaceous and Jurassic periods. Their fossils have been found in places like Europe, Australia, Africa and even North America. The Pterodactyls of earlier times were thought to be covered with a light fur coating. All in all these reptiles were fascinating in every way. I am very happy to bring you my drawing tutorial on “how to draw a Pterodactyl step by step”. I will be back later with more drawing fun so keep your eyes open for those as well. Have fun and happy drawing kiddies.
