Drawing a Dryad

1

Start off by drawing the profile of a female being like you see here. The shapes are for the head and torso. Sketch in the guidelines for the neck and body.

2

Sketch out the forehead, nose, lips, chin and jaw structure. When that is done you can draw the eyebrow and closed eye. Add a tear down the cheek too.

3

Begin sketching out the neck shape and then the tree limbs on the head and the vein like lines on the face.

4

For the hairstyle you will draw the wood lined hair or roots. They are super fine and stiff which also makes it look soft at the same time.

5

Sketch out the body. This is just the profile of a woman's body covered in thick tree line life lines or vines.

6

Go ahead and draw some roots spurring out the back. I drew four, but you can add more if you like.

7

Add more twig like vines coming out of the back, make sure they are cluster in appearance.

8

Sketch in the detailing all over the twig like branches and then you're done. You can erase the mistakes and guides.

9

Here is the line art once you are finished. Now just color in the drawing.

Description: Well, I know this was not a requested lesson, but the concept took form all on it's own. I was just doing a random concept sketch and this is what I ended up with. I call it 'how to draw a Dryad, step by step'. Dryads are female being that live among the trees or withing the trees. They are forest dwelling creatures who protect the forest. Anyways, I think this new version of a Dryad came out fantastic and I hope you enjoy the lesson. I still have more lessons that are coming your way so stay tuned in to see what they are.
