Drawing a Gargoyle

1

Let us begin by drawing the guide shapes for the head and body like so and then sketch in the facial guidelines as well as the leg and tail guides.

2

Begin drawing the face structure for your gargoyle like so, then draw the eyes and then the nose. For the top portion of the mouth make the three points for the teeth.

3

Here we will draw the wide open bottom jaw, then draw in the pointed tongue which is not in a relaxed state. Add the detailing to the face and draw in the ears which are posed back from growling. Add the detailing to the face and you're done.

4

You can now draw the neck, then draw the front legs which are pretty straight lined. The toes should be pointed and stiff.

5

In this step you will draw the shoulder, back line and then draw the thigh. Add some cracks on the legs and then some chips as well as other surface texture detailing.

6

Almost done folks. All we have to do here is draw the back feet and then draw the tail. As you can see the limbs are very stiff because it is a stone gargoyle.

7

We will now draw in the wings. The wing that is facing us is the only one you will draw in full. Add the cracks and blemishes to the wings and you can begin erasing the mistakes and guides.

Here is the line art. Have fun coloring in your stone style gargoyle.

Description: I think it's time to have some fun and that is why I have so many lessons to upload to make folks happy and to keep them busy. Today I will be submitting a bunch of lessons and they are all different from one another. I will start with a very much needed updated lesson on how to draw a Gargoyle, step by step. Now, I was browsing through a lot of tuts that are on Drago and I found only one tutorial on a gargoyle and I felt that was pretty bad because I am such a fan of these creatures. I know if I'm a fan, there must be others who like drawing Gargoyles as well. So here you go, a tut on a new stone style gargoyle all for you. Have fun and let me know what you think.
