Drawing a Totem Easy

Start with two simple guides.

Now you can draw a cup like shape like the one you see here.

Next, draw the rim designs on the top part of the totem and then draw in the middle section which is going to be the face and nose.

Here you will draw in the mouth of the totem which is chunky style teeth and a lip.

Add the eyes, and the designs on the bottom of the totem like so.

Lastly, draw in a simple bulky arrow that goes through the totem pole itself. When you are happy with your drawing you can begin to erase the mistakes and the guides.

Here is the line art when you are all done. Now just add some color and you can show off the art.

Description: In my neighborhood there is this house that has two trees, one on each side of the walkway and the tops of the tress have been cut off leaving these tall trunks. Now, the owners of this house carved totem style faces on each tree and they are very cool. When I seen that, it gave me the idea to make a lesson on drawing a totem easy, step by step. I made this really nice face on the totem in this tut. It's not too complicated to replicate, but it's easy enough for everyone to try. Anyways, have fun and let me know if you like the tut.
