How to Draw a Vintage Car

Step 1.

Start by drawing the frame or body guide for the car like so.

Step 2.

Using the guide, begin drawing the bubbly shape of the vintage car body structure. Start with the rounded roof, then straight nosed hood, fenders and wheel wells.

Step 3.

Draw in the arched shapes for the headlights, then draw in the stylish bumper and grill.

Step 4.

We will now draw the outline of the front windshield, then draw the passenger door seem lines and window.

Step 5.

Define the headlights by creating the shapes and well sockets that the lens' rest in. Add detailing to the front grill by drawing a series of small squares. Add definition also to the bumper.

Step 6.

Up next, draw in the tire, hubcap and rim.

Step 7.

Lastly, draw in the foggy smoke at the base of the car as well. These lines are wavy and rippled. Erase your mistakes and guides.

Step 8.

Your newly drawn drawing can be colored in now. You can go with vintage colors, or customize the car by adding decal or whatever you like.

In case folks haven't realized, I have been uploading lessons on vintage art and I think it is getting addictive because I just can't stop making more art that is vintage style. Here is my take on a cool drawing tutorial on how to draw a vintage car, step by step. When I think vintage I think pale, washed out colors mixed with old late fifties through sixties style art. This car is based on a car that I recently seen in a vintage car show last week. The car was such a traditional cherry red with spit clean shiny chrome bumpers, tail lights, and mirrors. Since this was one of the best looking cars in the show, I wanted to recreate such a beautiful object in a lesson like this one here. Have fun drawing a vintage car. I will be back with other lessons so stick around.
