How about a lesson on another musical instrument that makes a beautiful sound? I was watching a movie that was taking place in Roman times and there was a girl sitting on the sidelines playing a harp. I thought “wow that sounds so pretty”. The movie by the way was “Clash of the Titans”. So because I like the music that was coming from the harp I will be giving you a lesson on “how to draw a harp” step by step. The harp is considered to be a stringed instrument and is very different from other instruments that belong to the string family. There is a total of forty five strings on a harp and they stretch across the tall triangular frame that makes up the beautiful but simple design of this instrument. Now most of you probably don’t know this but the harp has seven pedals at the bottom which are adjusted while the strings are plucked by hand. The pedals pull and release the strings to produce a different note when pressure is applied or released. There is fourteen parts that make up the design of a harp. There is the front staff that is called a “crown or capital”, there is a “pillar” which is connected to the crown. The pillar is then connected to the base or pedestal. For balance the harp has a “foot” and next to the foot there is a “pedal box”. Inside of the pedal box there is pedals (usually seven), and then the long body is a slanted horizontal shape called the “soundboard” and soundbox”. Now, at the back tip of the harp there is what you call a “shoulder, chump, or knee-block” and then it is connected to the curvy neck of the harp which is the top portion of the instrument. There is also a disk, tuning peg or pin and then the strings. Once the construction of the harp is complete it is ready to be plucked to produce beautiful sounding music in the simplest form. The oldest known harps are from 4000 BC in Egypt, although harps have been used and found in places like Africa, Europe, and North and South America. There is some beautiful music to be heard with the harp and if you want to listen to what it sounds like all you have to do is type in “harp music”. I have to go now but I will be back. In the mean time have fun with this tutorial on how to draw a harp step by step. The harp that you will be drawing is very simple and does not include the pedals, and such. I will be back in a bit so keep your eyes open and you hand on the paper.
