Cow Anatomy Drawing

Step 1.

Skeleton - I'm going to dissect this cow anatomy from bone to flesh. Let's observe the skeleton of a basic generic cow. Notice how the bones of a cat aren't as complex as say a human. Though this isn't an exact replica of a cattle skeletal structure, it's a basic layout of what it generally looks like. The hip bone is the largest bone on the cow, which is why they have this sharp 'hump' at their rear. Also note that a cattle's bones are very dense to aid in their performance of running. It would be pretty helpful to use these diagrams for future reference if you'd want to 'zombifiy' a cow, or need a skeletal reference for a gory scene. Whatever the use, study various poses and angles of these creatures in a skeletal format (which may be difficult since Google is rather limited with things such as that). Having a wide variety of references is crucial for a successful artist's palette.

Step 2.

Organs - Here's a simplistic breakdown of a feline's organs. Notice there isn't much here, just the basics. This reference would be great to use if you're drawing again, gory scenes or some sort of macabre which requires references of cattle organs.

Step 3.

The Muscular Anatomy - Here's another breakdown of the muscular components that dress the cat. Study all the various tendon discolorations and the way the muscles intersect with one another. You could possibly use this as a reference to understand what slices of meat that you eat come from what part of the cow's muscular system.

Step 4.

Here are a few basic angles and views of a cow's head. Notice the muscular definition throughout the face as the angle changes. Their mouths can be a bit tricky to draw without looking like a dog or horse. Just remember, the mouth part of the cow is as wide as the forehead.

Step 5.

Let's examine the hooves of a cow and how they look like a cross between a goat and a horse. There is a wide split between the hoof, which creates a separate region. Don't forget to draw an extra hoof definition at the ankle as well.

Boy, it seems as though all these lessons on animal anatomy is becoming more and more popular which is why I keep making them. One of the more interesting aspects of these anatomy is how we are able to view inside the animal and get an up close and personal look at their anatomy on a more personal, informative level. Cows are not the most interesting animal species, but they are responsible for providing fresh milk, meat and farming manure enabling us to sustain life they way we choose. You will get a look at the cow from the muscle tissue all the way down to the bones and hooves. I hope you find this drawing helpful for whatever purposes. Have fun and good luck.
