How to Draw Cattails

Step 1.

Make three sprigs shooting from the base of the cattail's stem.

Step 2.

Here you will draw out the three thick leaves, then add detailing inside of them.

Step 3.

Instead of drawing three leaves, just make two in a floppy pose.

Step 4.

Before you draw in the stems of each cattail, you will first draw the shapes of each flower. As you can see they are like vienna sausage shaped, just a bit bigger.

Step 5.

Now you can draw in the stems and then be on your way. But first, maybe you should erase some of those mistakes.

Step 6.

Here is the line art when you are all done. Color in your cattails and remember to use this drawing in a background or prominent setting.

Why has no one ever asked me to make a tutorial on "how to draw cattails", step by step? It's so amazing that this plant has never crossed as a message to me in an attempt to ask if I could draw cattails. The mosh dwelling plant has been in existence since I can remember. It's always seen during the late spring and early summer months. They have green colored stems with skinny hotdog sized heads. A fun fact I learned the other day was; how some species of cattails can be consumed and are used in savory dishes. I was like wow are you serious? There is really food all around us if we know what to look for. Anyways, enjoy drawing a cattail, I'm sure you can use this lesson in a cool duck, fish or frog setting,
