How to Draw an Oriental Dragon

1

Let's start by drawing the dragon's line of motion which is basically the guidelines and shapes. Make a circle for the head, then draw the long swirl line for the body. Add the shapes for the talons as well.

2

Next, we will begin sketching out the dragon's snout which is shorter, and squarer than the typical dragon. The forehead bulging out like you see here, and the bottom jaw looks to be separate from the top.

3

Remember when I said that the bottom jaw appeared to be separate from the top? Well that's because it wasn't the bottom jaw at all. It was the inside of the dragon's mouth. Sketch out the chin and jaw line like so, then sketch out the bush of hair or

4

Chinese and other oriental dragons have antler shaped horns. You will draw those in like so, then begin sketching out the shapes of the ears. Next, we will tackle the face. Draw out the bulging brow, then sketch in the crinkle or layered wrinkle line

5

Okay guys, we will now tackle the body. Start by drawing a thick slithering body shape like so, then draw in the first limb which is the front leg and talon.

6

Draw in the second front leg like so, then slowly sketch out the back leg and foot along with the toes.

7

Here all you have to do is draw in the nails, as well as the scaly textured skin on the lower parts of the limbs. Also, there is a talon that has some of the back side exposed. Draw in the paw padding.

8

To finish off the design of the oriental dragon, all you have to do is draw in the other back leg, then finish off the body by sketching out the tail.

9

Before anything, you will need to draw in the hairy tuft at the end of the tail like you see here. When that is done go ahead and start erasing the mistakes. You will need to sketch in all the detailing to a cleaned drawing. Draw the underbelly linin

10

Here is how your oriental dragon looks when you are finished. Now all you have to do is color it in using a shade you like.

Description: It's been a while since I did an asian inspired dragon, so today I will be showing you "how to draw an Oriental dragon", step by step. I have made so many of these dragons in the past, so forgive me if I have little to say. It's weird seeing how different you draw when your skills improve. If I look back at some of the other oriental dragons I have drawn in the past, I see how I improved. Anyways, this should be a fun lesson to tackle. I mean how can it not be? It's always fun drawing dragons no matter what kind they are right? The body is from the side but you will draw the dragon's face on a 3/4 angled view. So go ahead and dive in. I will be back with some more drawing fun.
