Let us begin by making a circle shape for his head guide, and then add a facial guideline as well.

2

Next, using the shape you just created, begin sketching out the structure of Tim Burton's face. Notice how the face seems to widen on the right hand side. This is because of the angle he is in.

3

Using the facial guideline you made in step one, you will start sketching out the almond shaped eyes, as well as the thick eyebrows. Once you have drawn in Tim's eyebrows, you can shade them or color them in bold. You should also make sure that the t

Okay guys, the eyes are drawn in but he still needs eyeballs. Color in the entire iris and pupil so they look like one. Next, sketch on some wrinkle creases on his forehead, and then add eyelid creases as well as some definition near the right eye.

5

Now you are ready to draw out his broad shaped nose, then draw in the mouth using some simple line work. Once the nose and mouth is drawn in, you can begin working on getting the frown lines, clef above his lip, and chin arch all sketched in as well.

6

All you have to do now is finish Tim Burton off by sketching out the simple lining of his hair, and then draw the shoulders as well as the neck line or collar for the shirt.

7

In the end your drawing should come out looking like the one you see here. Now all you have to do is add some color, or leave your drawing the way he dresses, in black and white.

Description: Tim Burton is one of my favorite film directors. His style stuck out best against most of the directors for his time. His hit successes which was 'The Nightmare Before Christmas', 'Beetlejuice', and 'Edward Scissorhands', have stuck by my childhood for a very long time. Though, I have to say I'm not too fond of his newer movies. They lack uniqueness and variety. If he were to write more films that were original, then I bet he'd have a few more lasting masterpieces for his time. No matter what I have to say about Mr. Burton there is one thing that remains the same, he will always be a uniquely gifted director no matter what he puts out. He was born in 1958, which makes him younger than my grandmother. As a child Tim would make films in his backyard using an 8mm film camera that had no sound. When he would film these movies he would also use animation techniques that he was familiar with. You would think that Burton made it through school with flying colors right? Well the truth is, he wasn't that good of a student. He would much rather be home painting or drawing, and even watch movies. One of the main inspiration for his films is the stories by, you guest it, Edgar Allan Poe. I know I mentioned a few movies that he worked on, but what about the other flicks that we fail to think about but loved them as kids? Films like James and the Giant Peach was one of the movies I couldn't go without watching for more than a day. I found Sweeney Todd a bit weird, but it was also very good. And how can we forget that he is responsible for directing the best Batman movie which was the first Batman film that starred Michael Keaton. The list goes on and on, and on. In this lesson, I will show you in a brief way, using simple to draw steps "how to draw Tim Burton", step by step. I had so much fun drawing him, as well as the shading and whatnot. Be sure to check out the digital video on how I drew and painted him on YT as well! Peace out and have fun everyone!
