How to Draw a Male Draenei, World of Warcraft
Step 1. Start out by picking your pencils. I used an F pencil for sketching and detailed lines, a 3H pencil for light shading/lines, and a 4B pencil for dark lines/shading.
Step 2. Start out with a basic sketch, use the guidelines if you need them. Don't worry about copying this sketch exactly as it is. Just get a basic idea of the draenei down. Sketch lightly using an HB pencil.
Step 3. My sketch ended up looking like this. Erase any lines that you don't need.
Step 4. Use a 4B pencil to lightly shade in the background then use a blending stump to smooth out your shading.
Step 5. Start developing your shading at the head using an F pencil. Start light and progressively get darker. Use a 4B pencil for the darkest shading.
Step 6. Continue developing the head. Don't forget the light symbol floating above the head. Use a blending stump to smooth out your shading and an eraser to pick out your highlights.
Step 7. Finish up the head and the right shoulder of his armor. After that Start developing the left shoulder of his armor. Start by sketching with an F pencil and blending in with a blending stump. Use a 4B pencil for the darker shades. Use a 3H pencil for the smallest details.
Step 8. Finish sketching the top layer of the shoulder then move on to the lower layer as you move towards the elbow. Use F and 4B pencil to draw in the hair flowing down his back.
Step 9. Shade his armor up to about his wrist. Remember to work in layers from lightest to darkest.
Step 10. Now skip down to the area below his waist. Start by lightly sketching in the shapes of his armor, cape, and chained book. Use a blending stump to smooth out your shading. After that start developing his book using 3H and F pencils. Use a 3H pencil for any details too small or light for an F pencil.
Step 11. Now shade in the book using mainly an F pencil. Use a 4B for the darkest shading and 3H for the lightest. After you are done with the book use 4B and F pencils to shade and define his cape on the right side.
Step 12. Next shade in his thigh and cape. I started by roughly shading in with an F pencil and blending in with a blending stump. I then defined my shading using F and 4B pencils.
Step 13. Now move on to the rest of the drawing. Sketch in his hands and weapon using an F pencil.
Step 14. Start shading from top to bottom using mainly an F pencil. Use a 4B pencil for the darkest shading and a 3H pencil for the smallest details.
Step 15. Keep making your way from top to bottom. Don't forget to draw in his flowing hair on the left side.
Step 16. Shade in the remainder of the drawing. Try to clean up any details that need to be fixed. I tend to smooth out the background as I move along with the drawing but if you choose not to now is the time to finish shading in your background. Shade your layers in using a 4B pencil and blend in your shading using a blending stump or paper towel. Call the drawing done after you're satisfied with it. Let me know what you think of it or if you need any advice!
