1

Make a half cylinder shaped tube for the first step of your well. This is also going to be your workable base.

2

The next thing you will need to do is draw in the large trapezoid shape for the roof of the well like so, and then move to step three.

3

Now you will connect the two shapes by drawing the brackets or arms that are attached to both the roof and well shape. Draw the spindle and handle which is where the rope is tied to, and then add some wood grain detailing.

4

Next, draw the donut shaped top of the well and then decorate it with a bunch of overgrown grass and flowers like I did here. Or you can choose to create your own decorative well design. Once the flowers, leaves and grass is sketched in, you can then

5

Using a wiggle stroke draw the actual design or base of the brick style well. Once that is done, you can draw in some bushes around the well and then move along to step six.

6

Finally for the last drawing step all you have to do is draw the rocks or bricks, and then draw the shingles on the roof. The shingles can be wood or asphalt, that is totally up to you. Clean up the drawing and you're done.

7

Here is the pretty well when you are all done. Now you can get even more creative by adding your own colors. I hope you enjoyed this lesson on drawing a well.

Description: Up next is a fun lesson that is a bit different from the stuff that I have been uploading lately. Since I submitted a tutorial on a medieval style tower, I thought it would be cool to make a lesson on "how to draw a well", step by step. Wells nowadays are mainly used as garden additions for decorative purposes. Back in the day, a well was used to fetch water by dropping down a bucket that was attached to a long rope. The rope can be drawn both up and down just by using the winding handle that is assessable on the side of the well’s frame. Today when we hear the word 'well', most people think of the types of wells that are usually drilled and set up into a home. A manual hand pump can be attached to the well so that individuals can get water for their gardens, animals, and even for household use. In this tutorial you will be drawing a well that would make a great addition to a garden landscape drawing. I added some pretty flowers, a shingled roof, and a layered brick or rock foundation. The normal parts to have this a functional well are also added with the design. I didn't draw it, but you can also add the wood style bucket resting on the ledge of the well if you like. I unexpectedly had fun making this drawing and if that’s the case, maybe you will too. Don’t worry folks I still have one more tutorial to come so try to stick around to see what’s next.
