how to sketch a quick portrait

How to Sketch a Quick Portrait

Step 1.

Sketch main object lines with B pencil. Try not to press too hard

Step 2.

scrape some graphite from your 2B pencil(powderize) and apply it with a soft brush. It will be your mid-tone...

Step 3.

Lift excess graphite with a kneaded eraser to define base tone limits/edges.

Step 4.

Start drawing the eyes with a 4B pencil. If you draw with your right hand, Start from left to right... I guess its common sense why.

Step 5.

Start adding details little by little...don't rush. Build tone layers one at a time...

Step 6.

Sharpen your 4B pencil for some finer details. Concentrate on your focal point primarily with the eyes. One mistake and all your effort will be wasted...again, don’t rush...just draw what you see on your reference and forget all technical methods in creating details and proportions from tutorials you've read.

Step 7.

Apply a light tone by passing a clean brush over the whole drawing... Do it lightly.

Step 8.

Create highlights using the knead eraser and finally, clean your drawing. If you want a softer detail and want to achieve realism, use tortillion for finer blending, this artwork was done with marsmagno (staedtler) graphite pencils B,2B,4B,(6B for very dark tones), nylon brush, kneaded eraser and 1pc 9x12" 100gsm/24 sheet textured sketchpad. This is my first tutorial lesson, hope you guys would help me out by posting your comments so can make it better next time.
