This next character that I am going to show you how to draw is from an animated cartoon series that airs on Adult Swim. The show is called “The Boondocks” and it is about an African American family that lives in the suburbs. There are two characters in the series that I find interesting, Huey and Riley. The Boondocks started out as a controversial comic strip that appears in newspapers nationwide by creator Aaron McGruder. Today’s tutorial is going to show you how to draw Huey Freeman from The Boondocks. Now, Huey is a ten year old bitter African American kid that has a younger brother named Riley. Huey has a well cared for afro while his brother Riley has cornbraids. The two brothers originally came from the windy city of Chicago’s south side but winded up moving to the peaceful suburbs of Woodcrest with their granddad Robert Freeman. Did you know that Huey was named after the co-founder of the Black Panther Party which is “Huey P. Newton”? I sometimes watch the show when I am bored, and sometimes I find it to be funny. But the majority of the time the animated series seems a bit serious and down to earth. I think the funniest character from the show is their granddad that happens to have an old school type of personality. The voice of Granddad is the same guy that plays Ice Cube’s father in “Friday” John Witherspoon. Huey and his brother Riley are both very angry kids and they express their anger through thoughts and speech. Huey is not your typical trouble making kid, instead of causing trouble he lets people know how he feels. He is a future revolutionary that has specific views on politics, religion, media, African American culture and business corporations. Even though Huey has views on religion, he is not a religious kid at all. In fact he believes that people make their own destiny and miracles. Huey may be a character that always has a chip on his shoulder, but I have to say he is a well designed and well spoken ten year old that can probably debate better than most politicians. In this tutorial I will show you how to draw Huey Freeman from “The Boondocks” step by step. This drawing lesson is very easy to follow and the steps are really clear. I hope you learn something new with this tutorial I will be back in a bit with five more so stay tuned kiddies.
