How to Draw an Xenomorph, Alien
Hey everyone, I hope you had a fun and safe Halloween! Here's a tutorial for you featuring my favorite alien creature of all time, the xenomorph, from the "Alien" movies. This creature is also one of the main reasons why I'm a fan of H.R Giger, the artist that designed it. So, get your pencils and paper ready and give it a shot.

STEP 1.
Start out by picking your pencils. I used an HB pencil for shading/sketching and a B pencil for dark shading. I also used a 6B pencil for the darkest areas.
STEP 2.
Start out with a basic sketch of the xenomorph. Keep your sketching light and use guidelines if you need them.
STEP 3.
Your sketch should look something like this. Erase any unneeded lines.
STEP 4.
Now start defining the forms from top to bottom using a B pencil. Your lines don't need to be too detailed yet. Also try to roughly shade in your darker areas.
STEP 5.
Define the next section down.
STEP 6.
Now define the inner mouth and lower teeth a bit.
STEP 7.
Now further define the rest of the figure.
STEP 8.
Now shade in the background and work on the figure's outline. Finish up the background as you progress with the drawing in later steps.
STEP 9.
Now start defining your shading from top to bottom. You should rely mainly on a B pencil for all of the shading. Use a blending stump or tortillion to blend your shading. If you find yourself needing to make an area darker use a softer pencil like a 6B. You can also use an HB pencil to shade the lighter areas.
STEP 10.
Now move down to the next section.
STEP 11.
Shade in the inner mouth and lower teeth.
STEP 12.
Start shading in the rest of the drawing in the same downward fashion.
STEP 13.
Finish up the drawing by shading in the rest of the figure and defining your background. I hope you have fun with this tutorial. Comments and questions are welcome!Comments: Post Comment
