How to Draw a Corgi, Corgi

I don’t know how many people actually have this dog breed living in their homes as part of a family member, but again, I was asked to make a tutorial on one strange looking dog. They are short but long, and stubby but big. Today, I will be showing you "how to draw a corgi", step by step. This dog breed is also known as a Pembroke Welsh corgi, and one of the things that they are known for is how oddly shaped their bodies are. You see, corgis have long bodies that are low to the ground naturally. They have short stubby legs and it is this trait that makes the corgi look longer than most dog breeds. Like a lot of dogs, this breed has a double layered coat that is thick, short, and very weather resistant. You can find a corgi in two different coat options, and they are fluffy or long haired. Although the most common color you will find these dogs in is red or fawn, they are also found in black, sable, and tan. Some have chests that are white along with their underside, and then there are also some that are born strictly one color. By looking at a corgi you may not realize that these dogs are actually quite smart. They are also considered to be remarkably loyal, and they also like bringing pleasure to their owners and or family. Despite their short, stocky stature, they grow to be anywhere between twenty four to thirty pounds and that is a rounded number for both male and female. As you know most female species of dog are almost always smaller than males. Their life expectancy is said to be anywhere from eleven to fifteen years, but it’s not uncommon to have them reach the age of eighteen. As far as heritage goes, it is believed that the corgi breed is a relative to four other breeds; the Keeshond, Pomeranian, Schipperkes, and Swedish Vallhund. They fall in the herding category group which is the same as a German shepherd, Border collie, and even Rottweiler. Anyways, you should have a blast with drawing a corgi especially if you own one of these dogs. I guess that is about it, have fun and stay tuned in for more to come.

STEP 1.

Start by making two shapes, one for the head and the other for the body. The second shape should be a bit larger. Add a face guide and proceed on.

STEP 2.

Using the shapes you just drew in step one, begin sketching out the actual outline of the dog's body. Start with the head and shape of the sides of the head. Once the small gap is drawn in, you can draw out the erect ears, and then begin sketching out the fluffy style of hair along the sides, all the way down the body until you get to the chest and front stubby legs and small paw.

STEP 3.

Now that most of the front part of the dog is drawn, you can begin sketching out the detailing inside of the ears, and then draw out the eyes, nose, and lips or mouth. Add some detailing on the nose tip, and then draw in the eyeballs.

STEP 4.

Most corgi's have a two toned marking that starts on their face, and moves down the chest, and underside of their bodies. You will draw in the marking and then sketch in some brows, and then draw out the other paw. Add some subtle detailing to the coat, and move to step five.

STEP 5.

Now it's time to draw out the long length, but hearty form of the body. As you can see there is an angled back and butt area. Once the back, butt, and stomach are all drawn, you can sketch in the back leg and paw like so. You will also add another marking on the lower part of the leg which is right at the ankle.

STEP 6.

You are now at the point where you will finish off your dog, and you will do this by drawing out the other leg, paw, and stomach marking. Clean up the drawing and you're done.

STEP 7.

Here is the line art now that you are done, color in your dog and you have yourself a finished drawing that you can love.
