How to Draw a Hippogryph

1

Make a head shape and then draw a connecting that that goes to the body which should be drawn like you where drawing an egg.

2

The first thing you will work on is the head. Draw out the lining for the forehead, and then draw in the beak completely. Be sure to make the front part of the face like an eagle.

3

Complete the head of this Hippogryph by drawing out the pointed ears, and rest of the head. Here you will draw out the neck and at the ends of the neck be sure that there is three feathered tips. Remember the head of this fantasy creature is that of

4

Draw in a nice round friendly eye, and then draw out the eyeball and eyebrow.

5

The front part of the hippogryph's body is like an eagle. This means you will need to draw out the front legs and then make talons instead of hooves. Once that is done draw in some of the belly.

6

Here is the part where you will begin drawing out the back legs. The back part of the legs are shaped like a horse so that is the way you draw them out. Draw the back and rear end, as well as the extended wing like so.

7

Another part of the hippogryph that resembles the mare is the mane and tail. Begin sketching out these two characteristics of the horse and notice how the tail is thicker, and full of body. Add some pieces lifting up along the edges before you go.

8

All you have to do in this step is add all the finishing touches to complete this lesson or your drawing. Before you begin, erase the shapes and guidelines that you drew in step one so your hippogryph is already cleaned up. Add detailing strand lines

Here is what this awesome creature looks like now that you are all done. Now you can color it in and be on your way. Thanks and great job everyone!

Description: There are many creatures and beings that have been made up or added to lore from many different religions, beliefs, and creeds. A lot of the creatures that we read about in books are usually from the minds of medieval times. Griffins, sirens, and other fantasy figures are all really interesting and these characters even inspire writers and developers so much, that they are sometimes used in stories and animation. This tutorial is going to be on a fantasy character from lore, and the main reason why I am uploading it is because it has been a high requested creature for about a week now. Today I will finally fill the one request that has been waited for. What am I submitting? I will be showing you "how to draw a hippogryph", step by step. There are a few ways to spell hippogryph; hippogriff, hippogryph, and hippogryph. If you are a fan of the Harry Potter series, you should know that there is a hippogriff named ‘Buckbeak’ or ‘Witherwings’. What exactly is a hippogryph anyways? Well, you know how a gryphon is half bird and half lion? Well, this creature is half griffon and half horse. The front legs are of a bird, and the back body is that of a mare. There is a full mane and tail, as well as ears that sort of look like a horse too. If I was to pick what type of mythical creature I think is cuter or cooler, I would have to say, the hippogryph. Instead of drawing a complex version of this half bird half horse, I wanted to keep it easy. I made sure that the tutorial would be simple for everyone to try. Even novice artist can have fun with learning "how to draw a hippogryph". Well that’s about it for this description. I still have two more tutorials coming your way. Adios and have a happy drawing day!
