How to Draw Haku, Spirited Away, Haku

Folks, I just watched Spirited Away, and loved it (even though I must finish the rest of the movie). I've got say, these series of movies by Studio Ghibli are very creative, and well done. Though, all of it is dubbed, it still doesn't fall through with the actual essence of the movie. I found the toon “Spirited Away” to be a very charming and lovely film to watch. Me and my sisters already finished Ponyo a while back (which was so cute!). These films directed by Miyazaki contain a colorful and brightness to them, which is something that attracts my interest. In this lesson, we're going to be learning “how to draw dragon Haku”, Haku's transformation, in which Chihiro rides upon him a few parts in the movie. I find this dragon very gracious and pretty, throughout the movie. With a few references, I wanted to create the relaxed, and majestic look for Haku. Anyways, I hope you'll enjoy this lesson! Don't ever forget to get yourself a pencil, paper, and eraser. If you want to further your drawings, get yourself a pencil kit, for shading in various depths. Let me know how you did on this tutorial, and if you had any trouble. Thanks for viewing!

STEP 1.

The first thing to do is draw out an oval shape for the head, and then draw out the oblong style snout. From the head you will attach a long guideline for the neck, and body like you see here.

STEP 2.

Begin sketching out the actual structure of Haku's snout and forehead. Once that is done draw a thick, strong looking stash which hangs loosely off the sides of the snout.

STEP 3.

Draw the bottom part of the mouth, and then sketch the hairy jaw like you see here. Add definition to the bridge of the snout, and then draw in the nose, and slanted style eye.

STEP 4.

Sketch out the top half of the head and then draw out the horns. Once that is done you can draw out the ears, and then add some definition to the surface to make the face look a bit fluffy. Draw the rest of the long stash, and then move to step five.

STEP 5.

Now you can draw out the wormy looking body and as you can see it is very thin looking.

STEP 6.

You will now separately draw out the underbelly or underside of Haku body. As you can see it looks a lot like a snake, but just a bit puffier. Add some detailing to the body, and then move to the last drawing step.

STEP 7.

Okay guys, lets finish off this character. Sketch out the mane that is very full and flowing. It should travel down the length of Haku's body just the way you see it here. When you are done draw out the other stash like so, and then start erasing the lines and shapes that you drew in step one.

STEP 8.

Here is your finished drawing on a Spirited Away character that is known as Haku. Color in the beast, and you are all done.
