Steps: 6Updated: May 8, 2011P.O.V: 3/4Favourited: 23 timesI am back once again with another tutorial on a fun character from a video game that I know most of you are familiar with. Right now in this tutorial I will be showing you how to draw Spyro the Dragon. Now, I simply love Spyro, there are so many memories that flood my mind on when I was younger playing the game. I can remember when my little brother and I use to play Spyro on our Playstation all day long until it was time for bed. When you learn how to draw Spyro the Dragon, it will also help you draw the Spyro characters as well. Speaking of Spyro characters, lets name off a few shall we? Some of the games characters include; Sparx, Agent 9, Bentley, Bianca, Blink, the Dragon Elders, Elora, Hunter, Sergeant Byrd, Shelia and The Professor. There is a total of I think seven games for the console and a few for handheld video game units. The first game of the series is of course Spyro the Dragon, and then after that came the sequel Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage, after that Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon came out, then Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly came out for the PS2 and the Gamecube, and in 2004 Spyro: A Hero’s Tail was realesed for the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox. After those five games were realesed out came two other games that are a part of The Legend of Spyro Trilogy with the first of the trilogy being The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning and the second; The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Light. The third part of the trilogy will be released in North America on October 21, 2008 which is a little over a month away. It is called The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon. If you want more info on the new game release you can just go to Spyro’s lair and check out all kinds of cool stuff. Anyways this tutorial is going to show you how to draw Spyro the Dragon step by step. Before I go I would like to mention that I heard rumors of a new Spyro movie that is going to be coming out in the near future so keep your eye out for that huh. STEP 1.
Start this first step by drawing out the shape of Spyros head which is a circle and then add the facial guidelines. You will also draw the lines for his horns and then a curved line for the neck. Next draw an egg shape for the body and then the shapes of the limbs as shown. From the limb shapes you van then draw out the limb guidelines as well as the lines for the wings and tail.
STEP 2.
In this next step you will start drawing in the facial structure of Spyros face starting with the upper brow. This is just a wide smile line shape. From this shape you will then draw the lining for the face and snout as well as the two tiny humps for the nostrils. Next draw out the shape of the back of his neck and continue that lining to draw out the shape of the wing and tail. You will =next start sketching in the shaping of the legs and feet as well as the right ear.
STEP 3.
As you can see you will continue to work on Spyro's face structure. You will first draw out the shapes of the eye circles and then detail the nostrils and give him a wicked snarling mouth. On the left side of his face in the distance draw out the shape of his left wing and then the front of his chest. At the end of the chest line you will draw out the shape of the back limb as well as draw out the thick shape of his legs and give him some toes as well. Detail his wing as shown and then thicken his tail a bit too.
STEP 4.
As you can see by the time you get top this step Spyro is already starting form. In this step you will start drawing out the frills on top of his head as well as giving him some eyeballs. You will then detail the mouth and snout and give him a hint of a tooth. Draw a long curved separation line staring from under his chin and ending on the side of the front right leg. Detail both wings as shown and then draw out the rest of the left front leg. You will lastly draw out the claw nails and give him a few spikes on his tail as well as an arrow for the tip.
STEP 5.
All you will be doing in this final drawing step is detailing the horn and stomach with a series of lines. You will also draw detailing lines above the brow to add definition. Give the right wing more depth and draw the striped lines on the stomach as well. Erase all the guidelines and shapes that yo drew in step one.
STEP 6.
When you are completely done your Spyro should come out looking like the one you see above. All you have left to do is color him in and that is it.
