How to Draw Gerard Way, My Chemical Romance
Who is a singer/song writer that was born in New Jersey on April 9, 1977? If you are looking at the main image you already know who exactly I'm talking about, which means you also know who this lesson is going to be on. Today I am going to fill many requests and show you "how to draw Gerard Way", step by step. If you don't know, Gerard Way is the lead singer for the music group 'My Chemical Romance'. MCR's style of music is said to be alternative, and post hardcore rock. Gerard's looks have said to be very similar to Smashing Pumpkins lead singer, Billy Corgan when he was in his prime. In all reality, Gerard's good looks come from his Italian and Scottish ancestry. He began singing in front of audiences when he was in the fourth grade starting with a Peter Pan play at his school. He landed the role of Peter and since the play was a musical, he had to strut his stuff and sing songs. His musical and artistic interests was introduced to him from his grandmother. She presented Gerard with art, singing, and performing. Gerard even once made a statement that everything he knows was all taught to him from his grandma, and because of that he is grateful. Anyways, the concept for MCR was influenced by listening to bands like The Misfits, Iron Maiden, and others. The band was formed back in 2001 exactly one week after the attack on the Twin Towers in New York. In the beginning it was Gerard and his friend Matt Pelissier. Matt was the drummer and Gerard took the lead as the vocalist. Ray Toro was added to the line up because Gerard couldn't multi-task when it came to singing and playing the guitar at the same time. It was Gerard's brother that came up with the name for the band. Mikey Way got the idea for the name of MCR when he was struck in the head with a book called “Ecstasy: Three Tales or Chemical Romance”. It's weird how a name for a band can arise just from one accidental incident in your life. It wasn't until 2003 that My Chemical Romance was signed to Reprise Records. From that moment on they started to become a band that a lot of teens and adults related too. Gerard once said that song writing and singing helped him deal with his trauma and depression from all of the events that happened in his life. I had so much fun drawing Gerard Way out and I know there is a lot of fans from Dragoart that love MCR just as much as I do. I hope you have fun when you draw Gerard Way too. STEP 1.
Draw a circle and some facial guidelines inside of the shape for the beginning step. If you want to draw a larger portrait of Gerard, make a bigger shape.
STEP 2.
Begin sketching out his eyelids and eyes like so and be sure to make the lining a bit bold or thick because his eyes is what really stands out on his face. Next, lightly sketch in his nose as well.
STEP 3.
Now you will sketch the eyebrows and be sure to position them in a manner where he is giving you an intense stare. Finish sketching out his eyes by drawing the bottom lids, and eyeballs like you see here. Take your time with this step because you want to make sure that the eyes come out just right.
STEP 4.
Color in the pupils and add the definition to them like you see here. When you are done with that you can begin the lining to get the mouth or top lip line drawn.
STEP 5.
Finish sketching out the mouth by drawing in his top and bottom lips.
STEP 6.
Now it's time to sketch out the shape of Gerard's face like so and be sure to give him a strong looking jaw line and chin. When that is done start the sketching process for his parted hairstyle. As you can see he wears a heavy side bang.
STEP 7.
Continue to sketch out his hairstyle. This should be drawn using a messy lumpy stroke because as you know Gerard's hair almost always looks like it's not combed. Sketch in some strand detailing and texture definition.
STEP 8.
For the last drawing step, as you can see all you have to do is sketch out his neck, collar line and shoulders in the form of a shirt. Erase the lines and shapes that you drew in step one to clean up this portrait sketch of Gerard.
STEP 9.
Here is what the finished work looks like when you are all done. Now you can add some color, or keep your drawing as a sketch. I truly hope you had a blast with me as we learned how to draw MCR's front-man, Gerard Way.Comments: Post Comment
