How to Draw a Ferret

Okay this is going to be the last tutorial for today because I have a lot more work to do with the sites layout. In this tutorial I will be showing you how to draw another house pet that many of folks own today. No, it is not a cat, dog, hamster, goldfish, or anything like that; it’s the exact opposite actually. Instead I will be showing you how to draw a ferret. Ferrets are very friendly animals that to me almost look like a cross between a rat, mouse, and weasel. Well, maybe they look like weasels because they are a close cousin to the weasel as well as the polecat. Polecats look a lot like meerkats, and ferrets look like a mixture of both, weird huh? Anyways these animals are domesticated and they vary in color. Ferrets are usually brown, black, white, or mixed fur and they are right around 20 inches in length. Don’t forget to add another 5 inches for the tail, so that would add up with a total length of twenty five inches long. That is a little over two feet or two feet one inch. They weight almost nothing only like three to four pounds. Believe it or not, ferrets were actually known to be a rare commodity back in the 1970’s in the United States. It wasn’t until the year of 1980 that these little guys became a popular pet for homes across the U.S after the ferret made their television debut on the David Letterman show. It was a woman by the name of Wendy Winstead who owned her first ferret in 1969. She became a ferret advocate until she died sometime in the 90’s. An interesting fact about ferrets is that their behavior is very much like a newborn baby because they spend anywhere between fourteen to eighteen hours a day just sleeping. When they awake they then turn into adventurous toddlers because then they are fully rested, which of course makes them very energetic, curious and interested in their surroundings. Hmm that sounds exactly like a two year old. To me I would never want to own a ferret because they remind me too much of rats, but their social and silly personality make them cute in their own way. This tutorial will show you how to draw a ferret step by step. The instructions are always easy to read and follow. I also made sure I drew him in my steps simple enough for a novice artist to tackle. Adios amigos I will be back tomorrow with more tutorials. Until then I bid thee farewell.

how to draw a ferret step 1

STEP 1.

Start this first simple step by drawing a series of circles for the frame of the ferrets body and head. The first circle is just a simple round shape. Then the mid circle kind of narrows into the head circle. Finally the last two circles combined makes the shape of a peanut shell. Make the squared shape for the snout and then draw the facial guidelines as well as the guidelines for the limbs.

STEP 2.

In this next step you will start sketching the actual shape of the ferrets body using a jagged stroke to make him look sort of fury. Shape out the head readying it for the face and then begin sketching out the shapes of the legs and clawed feet. You might want to start shaping out the tail as well.

STEP 3.

Okay now you are ready to start giving this ferret a face. You will first draw out or sketch in his ear as shown and then sketch out the markings on his face and the mid part of his body. Next draw a small circle for the eye and color it in leaving behind a tiny white circle to give it a gloss effect. You will finish off this step by detailing the body as shown and completei9ng the legs and tail.

STEP 4.

This is the last drawing step and you will now first start erasing all the guidelines and shapes that you drew back in step one. This will allow you to clean up your drawing and preparing it for color. After you have done the cleaning aspect of this last step, you will then give this ferret some whiskers and then draw in his last inner front leg and clawed nails.

STEP 5.

This is it you are done. You have just completed this easy tutorial on how to draw a ferret step by step. That was sooo easy huh? I know. Well it seems that the only thing left for you to do is color him in any color you want. After that is done you are really done! I will be back you guys, I have a bunch of work to do until then. See ya

Wow, thanks! I've seen much better though lol! This picture was inspired by my visit to China, where my niece caught a bad cold and spread it to my mom and me. We even had fevers for a day. I intended to give this pic to my cousin, but my pesky niece decided to ruin it by asking for the picture, which, of course, I had to give to her in the end. XD
@freedompheonix
So did you draw this on paint or did you upload an image of your drawing?
