Enough with the birds already! That is what my reaction was when I looked at the front page once my lovebirds was submitted. I'm going to stay away from submitting tutorials on birds for a while because there is a bunch on the front page. This lesson is going to be based on beards. Drawing facial hair for certain characters may be something that is called for when creating a new male figure. This tutorial is going to show you "how to draw beards", step by step. I know the title of the lesson is kind of odd, but in all reality there is nothing better than learning the ins and outs to draw facial hair in the form of a beards, or a beard. There is many different styles of beards that is worn on the faces of men today. Some guys like wearing a shaggy or long style beard, and then there are the ones that take pride in that clean line-up job that their favorite barber performs on their face every week. This tutorial has helpful tips that will show you exactly how beards should be drawn. Long beards, short beards, scruffy five o'clock shadows in the form of a beard, goatees, and so on and so forth. Today is the day that your frustrations will be over when it comes to drawing facial hair on your next male character. I will be back later with at least two more tutorials for you guys to have fun with. In the mean time, have a blast with this lesson on "how to draw beards". Adios people, and enjoy the rest of your drawing day!

How to Draw Beards, How to Draw a Beard

how to draw beards, how to draw a beard step 1

STEP 1.

This is basically showing you the angle of flow that the beard should have. If you notice, a beard is drawn from just under the bottom lip, and arched upward to the side-burn. The side of the beard covers the jawline and even under the chin and neck if not manicured properly, but some dudes like that.

STEP 2.

Here is just a drawing of a typical beard that is neatly maintained. We call these types of beards, line-ups. Mustaches are sometimes trimmed right at the ends before connecting to the beard or goatee, and sometimes men just let the facial hair flow in harmony with one another.

STEP 3.

Lastly here is just some head shots of the many different types of styles of beards. As you can see the heads and faces don't change on each model, but the beards do which makes each one look different.

STEP 4.

Now lets start. We are only drawing two of the head models just so you can get a good fell as to how to begin drawing a beard. First draw two circles for the heads, and then draw in two cone like shapes for the jaws and chin.

STEP 5.

Let's start sketching out the shapes of the face which is only going to be the side profile. Start at the middle of the face and begin sketching out the nose. Slowly move down to drawing out the mouth, lips, and then the squared chin and jaw.

STEP 6.

Sketch out the ears like so, and then add some simple sharp detailing inside of the ears and even draw a simple earring if you like. Next, draw out the eyes, and move to step seven.

STEP 7.

Now you will sketch out or quickly draw out the hairstyles which is obviously the same. Notice how the head model to the right is missing some side-burns. That's because you will be drawing out a beard in the next step.

STEP 8.

Now you will simply sketch out the beards, and as you can see the ones I drew are very sharp. The beard to the right is long, and pretty lumberjack-ish. When the beards are drawn in, you can then sketch out the necks, and then add some detailing too. Once that is done, erase some of the shapes and guidelines you drew in step one.

Here is the finished drawing when you are all done. Hopefully you learned how to draw a beard using this lesson. Thanks for joining me for this tutorial, and be sure to come back again real soon.
