How to Draw a Chibi
Okay well in this next tutorial I will be showing you how to draw a very cute Chibi girl. Now as many of you know these Chibi characters have become very popular lately and I really don’t I know why. I mean yeah they are cute and all but, that’s it. I really have no idea what the whole purpose of a Chibi is to tell you the truth. I know that the whole phenomenon was created by the Japanese. In fact the word Chibi means “small” or “little person”. These pint sized animated characters have rapidly become the “it” thing in America as well as all over the world. Now, this type of drawing is when anime/manga characters are miniaturized into small, child-like formation. While in this state they are also very cute as well. That means you can take an ugly looking character in regular form, turn his image into Chibi form and instead if being ugly he will become a cute little being that is kissable. When drawing in this type of style it is sometimes called ‘super-deformed’ in the west and is pronounced ‘chee-be’ or Chibi. These drawn up characters are probably going to be here for a long while since they were generated from Japanese anime and manga characters. My mom asked me last week I think, what a Chibi was. She was holding this pen with a small baby looking character of Winnie the Pooh, so I said “that is, that little baby looking Pooh on the pen you are holding in your hand”. She said with confusion “oh, okay”. I was like I know right…8-) Anyways there is really nothing more to say about these strange little characters. I figured that they are a perfect concept to teach kids and other folks how to draw because they are so easy. So that is what you will be learning how to do today. You will learn how to draw a Chibi girl step by step. The instructions will help guide you through the steps to make it a breeze. STEP 1.
Okay in this first step you will draw out the shapes and guidelines for the chibi girl as shown starting with a large circle for her head. Then what you will do is draw a narrow bell shape for her body. After that is done you can draw out the guidelines for her face, legs, and feet.
STEP 2.
Next thing you will draw in this step is parts of her face and hair. Start by drawing a rainbow shape over her head and then draw her hair in the front which is parted. Next give her a set of eyebrows and then half moon shapes to start off the eyes. When you are done with that you can draw out the guidelines for the arms and begin shaping the legs.
STEP 3.
What you will do here is first draw the actual shape of the chibi girls eyes and then shade in an oval circle in each eye for the pupil. The bottom lid consist of a half moon shaped line. Now you can give her a big open mouth and a fat tongue. Now you will give her cone like arms and legs as well as detail the shirt by giving her some sleeves. In the back of her draw in some long locks of hair and give the hair a good jagged stroke.
STEP 4.
All you will need to do here is draw in some nice long eye lashes and then draw a decorative picture in her shirt. I chose a big heart but you can draw anything you like. Erase all the guidelines and shapes that you drew in step one and then clean up your drawing as well of any pencil marks you may have left behind.
STEP 5.
When you are done your chibi girl should come out looking like the one you see above. That was fun and easy wasn't it. Now you are ready to color her in your favorite colors.
