There is a lot of different ways that one can choose to draw a chibi figure. This is because not one chibi is drawn the same way. Each and every artist that draw or sketches in chibi style, has their own way or technique to tackling such feats. If you have noticed over time, fellow member and artist Jedec has her very own style whenever she draws chibis. Her chibi form is a lot slender and childlike then my chunky, bold versions I tend to draw my chibi figures in. Jedec is a fantastical artist that knows how to make and create incredible looking chibis, and the best part is, her work looks so flawless. This tutorial is dedicated to all you artists out there that wants to learn "how to sketch chibis", step by step. For a long time I wanted to make a lesson such as this but having no time in the world, I was sort of in a bind when it came to doing sketches I wanted to draw. Now that there is amazing tutorials being uploaded almost daily by other artists, I have some time now to draw and create sketched lessons that I think others will appreciate and learn from. I had sooo much fun creating this lesson because I know for a fact that there is going to be members, visitors and any other artists out there that will fall in love with this tutorial on "how to sketch chibis". I will return but when I do it will be with my last tutorial for the day. The reason why I don't have more is because I have been doing some good work with the site. See you back here soon guys!

How to Sketch Chibis

how to sketch chibis step 1

STEP 1.

This is a sketch on three different heads that are all drawn in chibi form. Notice that each head has it's own expression. These are the three commonly used faces that people uses when drawing a chibi character. Take a look and see which one you like the best.

STEP 2.

These are some of the different chibi style eyes that you will find on some of the chibi characters I have drawn in the past. There is many shapes and sizes you can sketch chibi eyes in, but for me I like to stick to these three, the wider larger look, and the oval more childlike look.

STEP 3.

Now it's time to look at the many sides to sketched chibi mouths. As you can see there is many ways you can sketch out a very expressive mouth for your chibi characters.

STEP 4.

When attempting to sketch out your very own chibi, there is many ways you can incorporate fantasy creatures and beings with the concept of a chibi. As you can see here this is my sketched version of a chibi elf that I drew. Notice how I kept features like the ears, clothing, and expression the same as you would see on your standard elf drawing.

STEP 5.

As you can see by this self titled diagram, this is a sketch of two chibi faces, one has big, bold aggressive eyes, but the other chibi on the other hand has smaller, less tense eyes. This is what I like to call, "battle of big vs small".

STEP 6.

Now it's time to start the tutorial. Begin by sketching out the shape of the chibi head, and then the body. The end result should look more like a gumball machine than anything else.

STEP 7.

Okay, sketch out the shape of the face which can vary depending on artist techniques. When that chosen face shape is drawn, you can then sketch in the eyelid lines, and the hair line. The way you sketch out the hair is going to determine the style of hair.

STEP 8.

All you need to do here is sketch out the shoulders, arms, hands, and then the dimples for the torso area where the arms make that fold for the pit.

STEP 9.

Now you are ready to start sketching out the eyebrows, and the rest of the eye shapes. This chibi also has a set of bushing lines sketched in which means you will need to add those as well. Next, sketch out the ear, and the rest of the body which is the hips, legs, and feet.

STEP 10.

Now you are ready to sketch in the last part to your chibi, the hairstyle. You can pick and choose on which sketched do you would like. For me I chose a wild spread with lots of folds, and waves. Next and lastly, sketch in the eyeballs, and ear detailing. Erase the lines and shapes you drew in step one to clean up your newly sketched drawing.

STEP 11.

In the end your new sketch should look almost or just like the drawing you see before you now. You can choose to color it in, or leave it as a sketch. Whatever you choose will be great.
