How to Draw Synyster Gates
So I have been getting a lot of requests to do a lesson on the lead guitarist from Avenged Sevenfold, and for a while I didn't know when I should go ahead and fill such a feat. After careful thought and consideration I finally came to my senses and said “to hell with it”, might as well get 'ur done. Anyways, I will be giving all you Avenged Sevenfold fans a detailed lesson on "how to draw Synyster Gates", step by step. His real name in full is Brian Elwin Haner, and he is for some reason one of the most popular members of the band. Originally from Lakewood, he studied at the Musicians Institute located in Hollywood. His studies where a part of the Guitar Institute of Technology's program where he studied Jazz guitar playing. One day as he was still in his studies, Brian revived a call from James Sullivan or as we know him “The Rev”. He asked if he wanted to join his band as the lead guitarist and after considering the calling, he decided that he would drop out of school and accept the position to join Avenged Sevenfold. Once he dropped out of school he found new success and became one of rock, and heavy metals most recognized lead guitarist of the modern age. In 2006 be was awarded with the Young Shredder award, as well as the Guitarist of the Year award from Total Guitar Magazine. Synyster Gates is also the one responsible for writing the song “So Far Away” which is a dedication to his fallen friend and band member, The Rev. James Sullivan died in December of 2009, and since then his presence has been missed by all members of Avenged Sevenfold, and by all of his fans. I had a blast sketching out this guitarist on my tablet because I know many of you will love learning "how to draw Synyster Gates". STEP 1.
You will start by sketching out the shape of of his head which is an oval structure. Next, add the facial guidelines like so and then move to step two.
STEP 2.
Beginning with this second step you will start sketching. Start by sketching out the actual structure of the face and head, and then draw the top lid lines as well as the nose tip.
STEP 3.
Finish sketching out the eyes and then draw in the eyeballs. Color in the the small areas along the top edges which gives the eyes definition, texture, and depth. Once that is done you can then sketch the nostrils, nose ring, and then the single line for the mouth. Next, begin sketching out his messy spiked hairstyle which is pretty easy to do as you can see from the example in front of you now.
STEP 4.
What you will be doing now is adding some light and dark smudged like shading around the eyes, cheeks, lips, and under the nose. When this is done you also have to sketch the eyebrows, and add some color under the eyes which is supposed to be liner. Add some more hair detailing at the scalp like so, and then move to step five.
STEP 5.
Using a very soft HB pencil, shade in the hair, leaving a few white strokes in several areas, preferably at edges of the scalp as well as the middle. Finish off by drawing the shoulder line.
STEP 6.
Add some shading at the edges of the jacket, and along the shirt collar. When that is done make some cross hatching to add texture to the right shoulder. Shade in the neck like so, and then erase any visible lines that you drew in step one.
STEP 7.
