Hello gang, I’m back this fine day with another fun filled tutorial. As you know I have been uploading some pretty neat Marvel Comics characters that have been a part of my childhood as well as yours. Today I thought I would go in the other direction and put up a lesson that is going to be based on a female hero created by DC Comics. She is the opposite of Batman, and a good friend to Robin. Get ready because you will learn "how to draw Batgirl", step by step. Now there has been a few women that portrayed the very sleek Batgirl in the past, but the original female heroine is a girl named Betty Kane. But after careful review, it was determined to terminate that character and move forward with a new one. Barbara Gordon was the new face who would portray Batgirl and she is the daughter of Commissioner Gordon. She was the face and character that would remain in the Batman and Detective Comics from 1966 to 1988. Batgirl was written in to be a solo act. This means she was almost like Catwoman in the sense where she didn’t have an accomplice or a sidekick. Because Batgirl appealed to both men and woman, DC Comics wanted to redo a newer image of the famous hero that took scum off the streets of Gotham City. In 1999 it was written that Barbara Gordon would retire as Batgirl, and a new face would move in. Her name was Helena Bertinelli, and she would become the new character for the Batman series. Over the years a better, more improved version of Batgirl took place and this time she was not only a younger woman, she was also from Asian decent. Cassandra Cain has been the face for Batgirl from 1999, but then was replaced in 2009 by Stephanie Brown. Cassandra’s role of Batgirl ended when she hands over her uniform under the orders of Batman himself. I guess you could say that even though she has been an unstable character, Batgirl is a female hero that has many faces. The other version of Batgirl that I know of was played by Alicia Silverstone in the 1997 movie version of Batman & Robin. In the movie Batgirl’s real name was Barbara Wilson, and she was much younger then the comic book versions. I choose to draw the cartoon or animated version of Batgirl since it is the one that is more recognizable by fans who watch the Batman cartoon series. If you like Batman, you should love learning "how to draw Batgirl", step by step. I will be back because I have another character coming your way. No it’s not going to be on a comic book hero or villain. Have fun guys, and be sure to come back or stick around for more drawing fun!
