Remember when I said that I had one more lesson to upload? Well, here it is, my second installment on a character from the anime series and Japanese manga, Ranma 1/2. I recently uploaded a lesson on P-Chan, and if you ask me, he came out looking great. Anyway, for my last teaching for the day, I figured I would do a tutorial on the actual main character from the series, but with a twist. I am going to show you "how to draw Ranma", step by step in his female form. Before I begin telling you the gossip on Ranma, I will fill you in on what the manga and series is about. The actual name of the series is “Ranma 1/2", and it is a story that follows a sixteen year old boy named Ranma. Now, since Ranma was a young child, he has been taught the martial art skill of Karate. With age, he grew to become a skilled fighter, which is mainly due to the fact how he was always going on a new journey with his father. These trips just benefits Ranma because his skills are improved. In the end, these journeys eventually educates him further in the arts. So far, everything sounds all good and dandy right? and because it sounds like things are going real well for Ranma, I bet your thinking "how on earth does this skilled Karate fighter become a girl"? Well, the answer to that is simple. One day when Ranma and his father Genma where out on another training trip, they ended up in Jusenkyo, China. While they where there, Ranma accidentally feel into the same cursed spring that Ryoga was pushed into. Instead of turning into a pig, Ranma turns into a girl. But this only happens when cold water touches his body. After that, the male version of Ranma is now a female version. But he can still be changed back into a male when hot water touches him. It’s like a reverse effect. I wanted to do the female version of this character because I like the Karate Gi that she wears, and because it was a request. Anyway, she is also an easy character to try and replicate which means when you "draw Ranma", you should have little or no problems at all. I do hope you enjoy this tutorial, and if you have any other requests for a different from the series, don’t hesitate to ask for a lesson on one. Well, I guess that does it for me guys, I will be back tomorrow with more drawing fun. In the mean time, continue to have fun on the site, and remember to rate and comment on all the artwork and lessons that you view. It really does mean a lot to all the contributing artists on Dragoart.com. Peace out my friends, and don’t forget to have fun drawing!

How to Draw Ranma

how to draw ranma step 1

STEP 1.

The first thing you need to do is begin making the shape of her head, and then the torso shape. When that is done, you will add the facial guidelines, and the rest of the lines that make up the body's frame.

STEP 2.

Now, begin sketching out the shape of Ranma's face like you see here, and then add the shapes of her eyes, nose, and mouth. Lastly, draw the neck shape, and then the top lining for her karate gi collar.

STEP 3.

Here wild and busy hairstyle sort of reminds me of my aunts hairdo that she used to sport back in the mid eighties. Trust me, the photo's don't lie. Anyway, begin drawing out her hair, and notice how the top is poofy, and gets thinner looking in the back. When that is all done, you can finish drawing out her eyes, and then start drawing the shoulders, and or sleeves, and then her fist or hand.

STEP 4.

Add some blush on the cheeks, and then continue to draw out the torso or gi including the right sleeve. Finish her hand, and then add the button slots. You will also need to detail the sleeves to make them look loose. You can do this by adding folds, and creases.

STEP 5.

It's now time to draw out the lower half of Ranma's body. This includes the hips and pants. The pants should also appear to be baggy, but not as much as her shirt. Draw the right hand, and add more detailing to the lower half of the shirt.

STEP 6.

Are you ready to finish drawing out your manga character? Good, then all you have to do is draw out the cuffs of the pants and then draw out the feet or shoes. Erase the lines and shapes that you drew in step one to clean up your drawing.

STEP 7.

Look how fantastic Ranma comes out looking when you are all done. What you need to do now is color her in. I hope you had fun with this lesson, and be sure to join me once again.
