The basic concept of a cute anime girl can be easier then drawing the basics of a cute anime boy. Start with a no gender anime face and see what you come up with. I recommend drawing front view faces other then ¾. It's much easier to draw heads in ¾ view than it is for front views. Artists that have a good eye for drawing front views can draw other views easier. I started off by drawing ¾ poses and it took me a while to proportion faces and bodies in a front view aspect. Learn the depths of “perspective” and the “vanishing point” to draw your characters accurately. The pros of anime had to learn all these basics to form where they stand now.
