Today is the day that I upload a lesson that will be on another character from The Lion King, and to tell you the truth, I can honestly say that I can't believe that I never did this character before because he is one of the main animals that makes the whole movie what it is. He is not seen as much in Simba's Pride, but he does make a few appearances. Today I will show you "how to draw Rafiki", step by step. If you are a fan of Disney's flick, you should know who exactly Rafiki is. He is a mandrill baboon that lives in a baobab tree where he does all of his meditating, and has his inspirational thoughts. I guess you can say that he is somewhat of a shaman Rafiki is a wise old sole that is a loyal, and compassionate friend to Mufasa, and more of an logical adviser to Simba. In the beginning of the first movie, it is Rafiki that carries out a ritual which is executed when the King of the pride lands son is born. He cracks open a melon, and takes the juices from the inside to wipe across baby Simba's head. Once that part of the ritual is done, he walks up the rock, and presents the new prince to all the animals of the kingdom. Although Rafiki doesn't talk too much in the films, he is often used as a narrator. Does anyone remember the old television series called “Benson”? Well, if you do, you should know that the main character Benson, is who provides the voice talent of Rafiki. His real name is Robert Guillaume, and although he doesn't look it, he is now nearly eighty three years old. Rafiki walks around on either all fours, or upright. One of his signature objects is his tall wooden staff which he carries everywhere, and he is even see uses it as a weapon when he fights off the hyena's when Scar's reign of king comes to an end. I have always been fond of Rafiki because he is such a quite character. I think you guys will have fun learning "how to draw Rafiki", step by step because it is always fun drawing a character from The Lion King. How to Draw Rafiki

how to draw rafiki step 1

STEP 1.

Start this step by drawing an oval shape for the head or face frame, and then add the facial guidelines. You will draw an outer circle that surrounds the oval face, and then add the guidelines for the body like so.

STEP 2.

Begin sketching out the actual shape of the baboon, and then add the eye shapes. Once that is done you can start sketching out the fury hair that surrounds the Rafiki's head. It almost looks like a lions mane.

STEP 3.

Here, you will start drawing out the shape of Rafiki's brow, and then add more detailing inside of his eyes. You will then draw the skin lines on the cheeks and then draw the bridge of the nose, and nose tip. Draw a smile, and then begin sketching out the long arms, and right hand.

STEP 4.

Finish drawing out the shapes of Rafiki's arms, and then incorporate the design and style of his wooden staff. Draw some melons and nuts on the staff, and then start sketching out his chest, and back lining which is arched.

STEP 5.

All you need to do here is finish drawing the back end of Rafiki's body, and then draw in the stomach and hind legs. Start the lining process for the tail too before you move to the next step.

STEP 6.

For your last drawing step, all you need to do is draw out the feet, and hand, and then draw the rest of his tail. When this is done, you can start erasing all the lines and shapes that yo drew in step one.

STEP 7.

When you are done, your new Lion King character should look like the one you see here. Color him in his bright vibrant colors, and then you have an awesome drawing of Rafiki.
