If you are drawing on paper, it would be best to use a regular pencil. If you are using sketching paper, use a good quality sketching pencil for a 6b. But, when you are lightly sketching out the portrait, use a 2hb pencil to do all the sketching, and

The first thing you want to do here is lightly sketch out the shape of her eyes, nose, and mouth using the 2hb pencil. Once that is done, go back and sketch around her eyes using the 6b pencil. This is to darken the eye's top lid, and widened ends li

This step has a lot more to do then the previous step. The first thing you want to do is sketch out the shape of her face. Once that is done, sketch out her bottom eyelids, and lashes. As you see the lashes are very thick. You can get them to look li

All you have to do here is sketch in the hair strands. Start the sketching process with close knit pieces, and then you can widen the flow at the ends. Once this is done, you can move to the next, and last drawing step.

Finish sketching out her long hair like you see here. Next add shading on the left side of neck, and then add some shading on the right side of her face. Also, you have to draw her shoulders and then begin erasing all the lines and shapes you drew in

When you are done, the sketch of this famous face should look like the one you see here. You can choose to color her in, or leave her as a sketch. If I sketched out her face on paper, I probably wouldn't have colored her in. But since it is a compute

Description: Every once in a while I will come across a tutorial request that brings back major memories. That's the case with this first lesson for the day. Someone asked if I could teach them "how to draw Avril Lavigne", step by step. It's not often that I draw famous faces on Canadian stars that have built an American reputation for themselves. I say this because Avril is from Canada, and she helped develop a new sound in the 2000's era. But who is she and how did she start her career? Her full name is “Avril Ramona Lavigne”, and she was born on September 27, 1984, which makes her around twenty five years old today. Her father is Jean-Claude Lavigne, and as you can tell by his name, he is totally French. Anyway, he named his daughter Avril after the French word “April”. She started singing when she was just two years old with her mother. That is when Avril's mother knew her daughter had talent. It wasn't until 1998 that fourteen year old Lavigne, got her chance to sing with a famous country star that had also been from Canada. She sang with Shania Twain, as they performed “What Made You Say That”. Soon after, Avril was singing in a book store when she was noticed by “Cliff Fabri”. In 2002, she released her first album titled “Let Go”. The hit single from that album, was “Complicated”, and it was number one in Australia, and held in at number two in the United States. Other popular songs included; Sk8er Boi, and I'm With You. The next album to make pop culture was in 2004 and it was called “Under My Skin”. Did you know that the song that Kelly Clarkson sings, “Breakaway”, was in fact written by Avril? It's true, Avril co-wrote the song with Matthew Gerard, cool huh? Anyway, the most recognized song from that album to reach pop culture was “My Happy Ending”. If your wondering when they heck did her more recent hit single come in to play? Well, “Girlfriend” was a track from her 2006 album, “The Best Damn Thing”. That is the song that I think of when her name is mentioned. I don't know why but, it's true. I can remember liking her older stuff when I was like twelve. Now since I kind of grew up listening to her music, I wanted the sketch, and colored drawing come out looking great. So, just because learning “how to draw Avril Lavigne" looks hard, don't shy away from something that is probably easier than drawing a cat. I will be back later with more drawing fun. Peace out people, and remember to rock on!
