How to Draw John Lennon

1

You will start this advanced portrait sketch of John Lennon by drawing two shapes that will make a frame for his head and face shape when united. Once the shapes are drawn and joined, you can go ahead and add the facial guidelines.

2

Next, use the guidelines you drew in step one as a guide to sketch out Lennon's eyes in a symmetrical way. The top lids will also need to be drawn in, and when you are done with that, you can then sketch out his very prominent nose that is almost in

3

Sketch out the round framing for his glasses, and then sketch in his eyes which consists of the iris, and eyeball. You will then sketch out the shape of his thin lips both to and bottom until his mouth looks like he has a pleasant smile.

4

Now is the time that you will start sketching out the shape of John's face, hair style, neck, and shoulders. Start by sketching his facial structure like you see here. The jawline is semi squared opposed to being completely round. When his face is sk

Sketch in some more texture definition and detail to his hair, and then move to the next step to start the shading process, and to turn this drawing into a portrait.

6

The right side of his face has darker shading because of the amount of light that is hitting the right side of John's face. Add the shading as you see it here, and then move to the next step. Take your time, don't rush. If you are taking time out of

The left side of Lennon's face has a much lighter texture shade going on. This is because his face is getting more light on the right. Once you add the shading, you can then add more detailed shading to his neck.

Now all you have to do to finish off this sketched drawing is add some shading to his forehead and end pieces of his bangs. Once that is done you can erase the guidelines and shapes that are visible. The erasing process should actually take place bef

After all is said and done, your drawing should come out looking like the one you see here. No need to color him in because he is a sketched portrait. I hope you had fun learning how to draw John Lennon, step by step. That was hard work wasn't it?

Description: "Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try, no hell below us, above us only sky. Imagine all the people, living for today...Imagine there's no countries, it isn't hard to do, nothing to kill or die for, and no religion too. Imagine all the people, Living life in peace...". John Winston Lennon was a man behind peace, and love, and he was an anti-war individual that wanted to change the world. Apart from being a peaceful man, he was also a writer, song writer, author, and rock musician. He is also one of the founding members of The Beatles with the other being Paul McCartney. John Lennon is responsible for changing the rock era forever. The stories he told with his song writing, and how the band united and performed his words, was amazing. Out of the four members from The Beatles, Lennon displayed more of a rebellious personality then them all. He would often say things that would push buttons which would then end the band in countless accusations that needed explanation. I guess you could say he was sort of like a sober Jim Morrison. He was born in a Liverpool hospital on Oxford street to Julia and Alfred Lennon. In the year of 1957, John Lennon already formed his first band at the age of sixteen, and it was called “The Quarrymen”. He first meet band mate Paul McCartney on July 6th during their second concert, and that is when he joined the band. Paul told his father that he was part of a new band and his fathers only reply was “he's going to get you into a lot of trouble”. When John was eighteen, he wrote his first real song called “Hello Little Girl”, and at that time it was only John and Paul writing the songs. That very same song made it's way to the UK's top 10 hit list for almost five years. Some time later George Harrison became apart of the band as lead guitarist, along with Stuart Sutcliffe as the bassist. Now that there where four, John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, and Stuart Sutcliffe became The Beatles. When Sutcliffe died, he was replaced by Ringo Starr. From the beginning Lennon was always considered the lead member of the band that gave instructions, performance routines, and album dubbing. As you all know, John Lennon left the Beatles and went on his own as a solo act. After the Beatles broke up in the seventies, he and seeked therapy with a doctor named Dr. Arthur Janov out of Los Angeles. After working out his problems, he pursued his solo career from 1970 to 1980. This gave him ten years of doing what he loved to do, be an advocate through music, living his life with Yoko, and becoming a family when his son Sean was born. But wait, I didn't mention anything about his love Yoko Ono? It is said that John met Yoko in 1966 during her art exhibit in London at the Indica gallery. Note, Lennon was still married to his first wife Cynthia Powell when the affair with Yoko was going on. Once the husband and wife split, John and Yoko was born. His life was most definitely an extraordinary one and I worked for five hours drawing this Photoshop sketched portrait of him. I also recorded the whole thing as I drew it, and I have to say looking back at all that work is really awesome. I hope you guys like this lesson that will teach you "how to draw John Lennon", step by step. The portrait I think came out almost perfect. Let me know what you think, and be sure to rate too. Peace out guys, I will be back tomorrow with more drawing fun!
