How to Draw Strawberry Shortcake

In this next tutorial you will be learning how to draw a character from my childhood called Strawberry Shortcake. Now I know almost everyone knows who Strawberry Shortcake is right? Well if not I will give you a brief description on this strawberry red hair colored girl. It all started in the year of 1977. A woman by the name of Muriel Fahrion was a greeting card illustrator and worked for a company named American Greetings in the juvenile and humorous department. She was the one that came up with the design of the original Strawberry Shortcake and her dog Custard. The idea was passed on to Bernie Loomis and was eventually licensed. Muriel Fahrion was in charge of developing and designing a total of 32 more characters that were all a part of Strawberryland. When I was a kid I had several Strawberry Shortcake products including the miniature doll set. I can remember when I first got the doll; I opened the package and all I smelt was the sent of Strawberries. That was one of my favorited things about the Strawberry Shortcake line was how all the characters came with their own special scent. During the 80’s Strawberry Shortcake became a quick fad which involved a clothing line, sticker books, posters, board games, and even a video game by Atari. Soon the red headed doll figure started airing TV specials and originally what they wanted to do was air one special on yearly bases, and this worked out fine for the first 5 years, but after the fad for Strawberry Shortcake started tanking the company stopped developing TV specials, they stopped producing and introducing new characters to the line up as well as continuing the clothing line. However in the year of 1991 a company called THQ took a risk and tried bringing Strawberry Shortcake and her friends back into the mix. This time they had a new updated look and style, but unfortunately the line only went so far, and lasted for 1 measly year. Again the franchise took yet another shot at revamping Shortcake and her friends in the year of 2002. This time they got a different designer and everything. A new series was released and a full length feature film was released as well called Strawberry Shortcake: The Sweet Dreams Movie which hit video stands in 2007. Strawberry Shortcake suffered a down fall in the past but now is back up and still running strong. A new DVD “Big Country Fun” is set to be released some time this year and I’m sure that will be a hit as well with young girls all over. A list of Strawberry Shortcakes friends which are all named after deserts are as follows; Apple Dumplin’, Huckleberry Pie, Blueberry Muffin, Raspberry Tart, Plum Puddin’, Orange Blossom, Lemon Meringue, Apricot, Lime Chiffon, Cherry Cuddler, Butter Cookie, Angel Cake, Almond Tea, Tea Blossom, Café Ole, Crepes Suzette, Mint Tulip, Lem and Ada, Peach Blush, Baby Needs-A-Name, Banana Twirl, Ginger Snap, Honey Pie Pony, Peppermint Fizz, Rainbow Sherbet, Coco Calypso, Seaberry Delight, Frosty Puff, Tangerina Torta, Watermelon Kiss, and Carmel Corn.
