Dachshund's are a very peculiar looking breed of dog because they have these long narrow bodies, and some large looking heads. Besides there being three different varieties, the dog is what you call a loyal companion, and forever friend. If you are in the market to by a Dachshund, you might want to look at all three kinds, but in all they are in essence the same. There is the short-haired, the wired-haired, and the long-haired. Along with the different types of coats, there is also different sizes as well, regular, and miniature. If you want to get a standard sized Dachshund, he/she should weight a little over ten or eleven pounds and have a height that is between eight and eleven inches. Now the min-dach's should end up weighing no more then eleven pounds by the time it reaches twelve months old, and be as tall as seven inches. As you can see there is a difference in size, but not too much. Regular Dachshund's are a small breed dog anyway, so the miniature version of them are just slightly different. A nickname that these dogs are best known for are “hotdogs”, “wiener dogs”, and the “hotdog dog”. Surprisingly Dachshund's are very active and it would be a good idea to walk them on a daily basis, or let them play in the yard, or a dog park for a good hour which should include some sort of running. It is also best that you drain the energy out of these dogs from a busy day to keep them healthy physically, and mentally. Did you know that it is a bad idea to teach a Dachshund to jump? It's true, because there bodies are long, they are at high risk for spinal damage. Unlike other breeds of small dogs, this pet only has a life expectancy of twelve to fifteen years. That's about the same for a German Shepherd. But don't let this information discourage you from adopting one of these adorable breeds. If you are looking for a dog that would be an excellent pet for your small home or apartment, then this is the right pet for you. Think about it for a while, but in the mean time, how about learning "how to draw a Dachshund", step by step to see how he would look on your fridge as if was a picture of your real pet. I will be back later with more drawing fun guys so stay tuned in. Adios amigos!
