How many living species do you think there are that live on our planet Earth? It's a weird question I know but, for this next tutorial it is an interesting question to ask as well as answer. There is one and a half million living species on this planet and guess how much are insects? Eight hundred thousand. That is a larger number then all the animals and plants combined. Today I wanted to keep the insect drawings going, so not only did you have the pleasure of drawing a centipede, you will also receive a lesson that is going to show you "how to draw a beetle, step by step". There are over three hundred different types of beetle in existence and the “ladybug” is one of them. The largest known beetle to date is the “Titanus giganteus”. These beetles can grow to be over six inches long, that's half of a foot! Another interesting species of this insect is the “Hercules beetle”. They are given this name because they have two large horns that looks a lot like a crabs claw. Such an interesting species like the Hercules beetle can even fly which makes it even more unique. If you Google an image of this specimen you will know exactly what I'm talking about. There is just so many incredible insects that belong to the “Coleoptera” family. This is just a simple lesson that will show you "how to draw a beetle" in the most common form and shape. The color of beetle that you may have seen around the house in the summer months is the black, or potato beetle. Those are the small chubby brown looking bugs that are seen floating dead in pool water, and window ledges. Have fun with this tutorial, and remember to come back to see what else I submit. You never know what Dragoart.com has in store when it comes to drawing! Peace out guys and have a happy night!

How to Draw a Beetle

how to draw a beetle step 1

STEP 1.

There are three parts to a beetles body so that is what you will draw first. The head shapes, the thorax, and the abdomen. You will then draw a vertical line that is the length of the body from head to abdomen. Next and lastly, you will draw six leg lines and two antenna guidelines.

STEP 2.

Here you will start sketching out the actual shape of the head and then add the thickness for the antennas. Next draw the mandeblis, and then the notch in the middle of the head tip.

STEP 3.

Add the eyes, and draw the head in more defined detail. Next draw the shape of the thorax and then the almond shape of the abdomen. The wings of a beetle eject from the top, which is why you have to draw a vertical line on the abdomen, and this line is called a "suture".

STEP 4.

Start sketching out the shapes of the two front legs and as you can see they are in three parts. Once that is done move to the next drawing step.

STEP 5.

Now, draw the middle legs, and again each leg should be drawn in three sections since there is three parts to the limb.

STEP 6.

And for your last step? Yup, you guessed it, draw the last two legs. And as you can see there is still only three parts to the legs. Erase all the guidelines and shapes that you drew in step one to clean up your drawing!
