It's January 29th which means there is only four more days until we find out if our states are going to be stuck with six more weeks of winter, or that winter will soon end. The way that we will find this information out is not done by any kind of meteorologist, it's actually determined by a rodent, and that is the animal that you will be getting a lesson on today. I will be teaching you “how to draw a groundhog, step by step”. The groundhog is probably one of the more famous creatures in existence. I mean it has to be if a whole day is dedicated to this species. The groundhog is also called “woodchuck” and there is a total of fourteen different types of marmots, which is the family that the groundhog belongs to. These rodents are a lot like bears in the sense of their pre-hibernation preparation. Like bears, they overfeed themselves all through the summer to keep their bodies operational when they are in deep slumber through the winter months. Did you know that groundhogs are the biggest members of the squirrel family? It's true, the groundhog is a relative to the squirrel even though they live primarily on the ground. But, they are also very good climbers, and swimmers all the same. In the spring females will give birth to a good twelve young and they will stay with her until they are big enough to make it on their own. These animals are also herbivores which means they only eat greens, fruit, and nuts, and they can get as big as thirteen pounds. February 2nd is the day that most Americans and Canadians gather to find out if the groundhog will come out and see it's shadow. I however hope that “he”, meaning Punxsy Phil, will not see his shadow because where I live, there is more snow then anyone would want to deal with. Here's a cool fact before I go, for over one hundred twenty years, there has only been one groundhog that has been predicting the future, which means there has only been one Phil! I hope you guys have fun with this tutorial on “how to draw a groundhog, step by step”. If you want to see a couple of funny movies that have these furry critters in them, then check out two of Bill Murray's movies “Groundhog Day”, and “Caddy Shack”. I have to go, but I will be back with more drawing fun. Peace out guys and Happy Groundhog Day!
