This last tutorial that I will put up for today is going to be on an American monument that has been admired for decades. The tutorial is on "how to draw The Statue of Liberty". The statue is located in the United States and sits on a 12 acre island on the water of New York. The Statue of Liberty was a gift given to the people of the U.S from the people of France over one hundred years ago in recognition of the friendship established during the American Revolution and also as a symbol of freedom and democracy. In October of 1986 The Statue of Liberty officially celebrated her 100th birthday. A man by the name of Frederic Auguste Bartholdi was the one that sculpted the statue and also made sure that the project was finished by 1876 to honor the centennial of the American Declaration of Independence. Even though the French built the sculpture it was America’s job to build the pedestal it sat on. Now because the statue was going to built from copper, Bartholdi needed the assistance of an engineer due to structural issues that come with designing a colossal copper sculpture. So he got Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel, the man who designed the Eiffel Tower in Paris France. The financing that the Americans had a bit of a hard time raising was completed in August 1885, and the pedestal itself was done by 1886 of April. The enormous statue was completely done in France in 1884 in the month of July. It arrived in the United States at the New York Harbor in 1885 of June. The statue was shipped aboard the Isere and came in 350 individual pieces and packed in 214 crates, WOW! It took a total of four months to reassemble the Statue of Liberty onto her American made pedestal. On October 28, 1886 the dedication took place in the presence of thousands of spectators. The Statue of Liberty acted as a lighthouse from 1886 to 1902. The height of this monument from base to torch is 151 feet and 1 inch. The height of the full statue from pedestal to torch is 305 feet and 1 inch. Just the length of her hand is 16 feet long and her index finger is another 8 feet, now talk about a big girl huh, WOW! There are a total of 200,000 pounds of copper that was used for the statue as well as 250,000 pounds of steel. I’ve never personally been to see the Statue of Liberty but it is on my list of things to do. This tutorial will show you how to draw the Statue of Liberty step by step. The easy to read instructions will put you on your way to learn how to draw one of the famous monuments of all time.

How To Draw The Statue of Liberty

how to draw the statue of liberty step 1

STEP 1.

Start the first step like you would with any other tutorial step, draw out the guidelines and circle shapes for the frame and the base of the statue. Starting at the top draw a round circle for the head and a smaller circle for the torch. Now draw out the outlined shape as shown for her long dress and also draw out the shape of her book in her right hand. Now draw out all the guidelines for her arm and pedestal as shown.

STEP 2.

In this step you will start drawing out her face, fingers, and the base of the pedestal . You will also be sketching in the detailing of her dress as well. Starting at the top draw in her eyes, noes, and mouth, then draw out the shape of her left arm and sleeve as shown. Draw the lining for her hair and the bottom base that she is placed on after you are done here and your sketch looks similar to this one move on down.

STEP 3.

This step is all about shading and detailing the statue of liberty. Of course you will have to draw out her torch before you do any detailing. The best way to see all the detailing you have to do in this step is to enlarge the image so you can get a good look at everything. After everything is drawn out as shown, start sketching in the details on her dress, and all the brick on the pedestal as well.

STEP 4.

All you need to do in this last step is sketch in a bit more brick detail on the pedestal than you are done. Well not completely done because you still have to erase all the guidelines and shapes you drew back in step one. So why don't you do that now, and when you are done move down to the final step.

STEP 5.

That's it there she is the famous Statute of Liberty. I know that was super duper easy to draw right? All you have to do if you like is color the copper babe in. But I left her as a sketch in my sketch book. Well that does it for this tutorial on how to draw the Statue of Liberty. I will see you all tomorrow then huh.
