How To Draw A Dwarf

This tutorial today is going to be on a fabled being from fantasy literature, the Dwarf. Dwarves originated from German mythology, and have been a part of fantasy fiction and most fantasy role playing games and movies. One of the most common known dwarves is in fact from the role playing video game that I enjoy playing, WarCraft. Dwarves are described differently in many movies, games and fairy tales. Some are described as being ugly and short with magical abilities, and they are said to live in the underground world which is where they build their strengths and abilities. They are also known for creating beautiful, strong weapons such as the famous axe which is the signature weapon for the dwarf, soon after German folklore was out, the English and Dutch had their own versions of dwarves that where a lot different from German folklore. They had magical creatures at their sides such as fairies that used charms, curses and other deceitful tactics on behalf of the dwarf. The general description of a dwarf is that they are anywhere between 3 and 4 feet tall, they have humongous heads, long bushy beards that are sometimes braided, and they at times only dress in armor because they stay prepared for battle at all times. Some of modern day dwarves from fairytales include Rumpelstiltskin, and Snow Whites seven famous dwarves; Grumpy, Sleepy, Doc, Dopey, Happy, Bashful, and Sneezy. Many modern fantasy stories created interesting concepts of dwarves from the original dwarf like how they are excellent miners, and have incredible skill with metallurgy. There are also the dwarves created by J.R.R. Tolkien when he gave them a whole new character in his book “The Hobbit” which is also part of “The Lord of The Rings” volumes, these dwarves where from a place called Middle Earth and where described as being shorter and stockier than Elves and Men. But in my tutorial I used a combination of the dwarves used in WarCraft like the suit of armor and the face of a typical looking dwarf with the long bushy beard, and I also made him a warrior. I like how this drawing came out, I also hope you enjoy learning how to draw a dwarf warrior step by step. You can color his armor any color you want to that is your choice. The instructions are simple enough to make the whole drawing and sketching experience a breeze.

learn how to draw a dwarf warrior step 1

STEP 1.

In this first step you will be drawing out the guidelines and circle shapes of the dwarf. Start by drawing the round circle for his head with three round circles to the left for the arms. On the right draw three more circles for the shape of the other arm. For the legs you have to draw three more circle shapes for each side. Draw the lining for the axe and move down to the next step.

STEP 2.

Now here in step 2 you will be drawing out the detailing in the armor like with the hands, axe, boots, and shoulder pads. After you detail the dwarves suit detail his face by sketching in his eyes, nose and the shape of the beard. When your sketch looks like the one above you can move down to the next step and tackle what lies ahead.

STEP 3.

Step 3 contains a bunch of detailing and definition through out the sketch of the dwarf. Starting at the face sketch out the detailing in his beard and hair line on the top of his head. Next staying at the top of the image draw out the detailing in the armor by drawing the lining on the shoulder plates on both sides. Move down a bit and detail the middle of his suit a bit and then draw the detailing in the metal looking boots on both sides. After the suit is detailed finish drawing the lining of the axe which looks like a typical shaped axe but has a powerful appearance.

STEP 4.

Now this is the most time consuming part of the whole tutorial. What you have to do here is sketch out the definition all over the suit of armor. This armor has spikes all over it which adds more protection for the dwarf warrior in battle. Detail the axe some more. After you finish your drawing and it looks like the one above erase all the guidelines and circle shapes that you drew in step 1.

STEP 5.

This is what your finished sketch should look like when you are done. All that is left to do is color him in and give him a name. That concludes this tutorial on how to draw a dwarf warrior.

Yeah sure!! ;D hahah, i remember when i couldn't draw faces. I took the time to read books on how to draw faces and bodies right. This dwarf I admit isn't really that good XP What are you favorite things to draw? Do you learn to draw from books too or just this website!
