I wanted to submit another lesson on a big cat animal that is much like a few that I already have tutorials on. You will be taught "how to draw big cats" like the Puma step by step. The Puma is an animal that has many names. They are also known as the Cougar, Panther, and Mountain Lion. What the difference is between the four is still unknown, but researchers say that the different names for this animal is a result of the different parts of it’s habitat. Puma’s live in a variety of places starting from the south west of Canada, to the northern states of America, and they are also located through most of the western parts of South America. If you were to look at a Puma that came from the north where the mountains are high and lush, you will find that these big cats have longer coats and or fur to help protect them with the extreme weather conditions that take place in areas like the mountains. Their colors are also different, they have either a slate grey tone to a yellow and reddish brown color. The body structure of the Puma is as follows; they have small broad shaped heads with round ears and they have a strong and powerful body with long legs and a long tail which is sometimes colored with a black tip. In the wild the puma lives to be around ten to fifteen years old. When they have litters, the mother will only bear between two and three cubs. The Puma’s average weight ranges between seventy and two hundred pounds. When a Puma marks their territory they scratch trees and spray urine in areas to ward off any other Puma from trespassing the areas. Another cool fact about the Puma, is that they tent to hunt alone. They eat other animals making them carnivores (obviously), and what they prey on is pretty basic. They eat cattle, horses, and then their favorite, deer. When a Puma jumps they have a reach of about forty feet which is why they have the long powerful hind legs. When the large game is hard for these animals to find, they will also feed on sheep, rabbits, beaver, and even rats and other rodents. I wanted to draw a simple sketch of a typical looking puma so what I did was draw a cartoon version. You will learn “how to draw a Puma” with ease. I will be back later today with more drawing fun so stay tuned in to see what pops up next. Peace out people.

How to Draw a Puma

how to draw a puma cat step 1

STEP 1.

To start this lesson on the Puma you will need to draw a few shapes and guidelines. Start with a head shape and then add the facial guidelines. You will then draw a small neck line and then attach it to another circle shape that will later be the torso of the cat. Next attach that shape to another circle shape for the back end of the animal. Lastly draw the limb lines as well as the long tail line.

This is your last drawing step. All you have to do now is sketch out the rest of the shape of the back neck, and then the back itself which also contains the shoulder. Erase all the guidelines and shapes that you drew in step one and then that is it.
