Hello gang, welcome back to another fun filled drawing lesson that will be on something a bit different. When I say “a bit”, that is exactly what I mean. Everyone is familiar with chibi characters right? Well I discovered something that looks like the chibi but has a different descriptive name. So what I am teaching you today with my first tutorial of the day is “how to draw super deformed chibi” step by step. What is super deformed style? Well I was wondering this myself so I did a little bit of research to find out what exactly “super deformed” means and here is what I found out; Now I know that my super deformed or SD character doesn’t quite look like the way I am describing it, but that is because I drew a super deformed chibi instead if a typical character. Now Super Deformed is another form of Japanese style art that is more or less like our caricatures that we are familiar with. SD are characters that are drawn with an over exaggerated style that make the chosen characters look stubby, small, and have bigger than usual heads. Their limbs are supposed to look short and stubby as well to make them appear to be small children. Basically it is the same thing as a chibi the only difference is SD characters have regular hands and feet, and they also have muscles and definition if you choose to have them drawn that way. SD is a part of Japanese culture and because of this, these characters are seen throughout Japan. For example, SD characters are used on advertising and billboard displays, and even with their anime and manga. I think that this style of drawing is going to blow up in a big way.
