Hey, Hey, Hey. Remember those famous three words by that incredibly hefty cartoon character Fat Albert. The show was called Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, this series was created, produced, and hosted by Bill Cosby, he was also the voice talent for a few of the characters on the cartoon series as well. In the year of 1969 Fat Albert was aired as a one time prime time special on NBC called Hey, Hey, Hey, it’s Fat Albert. After the debut, producers wanted NBC to air the show and add it to Saturday mornings line up, but unfortunately NBC thought that the show was just too educational and felt that kids wouldn’t take a liken to the cartoon series. After the refusal to be aired on NBC, they presented Fat Albert to CBS, they came to an agreement and allowed the educational series to air and made its premier in September of 1972, three years after airing on NBC. Becoming a smash hit, Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids remained on air for a total of 12 long years. The show was actually developed by Bill Cosby depicting his life as a child growing up in Philadelphia. He never imagined that the cartoon series would actually blow up the way it did. No reproductions where made after airing for twelve years, instead holiday specials and blooper reels where aired once in a while during certain holiday seasons. In 1974 Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids received an Emmy nomination. The series officially ended in 1985, before the ending of the cartoon, Bill Cosby took his idea for a sitcom called The Cosby Show and made its debut in 1984. TV Guide gave Fat Albert the number 12 spot on their top 50 list of greatest cartoon shows of all time. In the middle 90s to early 2000s FUBU clothing line displayed Fat Albert and the Junkyard Gang on a number of their different styles of clothes. Over time Fat Albert and his gang gradually faded away becoming a distant memory from our childhood.
